What is wrong with my manky toenails?

WilfSell · 20/12/2009 16:28

I am sitting here idly inspecting them between essay marking

Three toenails on one foot are all, um, gnarly. And the big toenail is coming away, sort of, on one side.

Is this something a pedicure can sort out? or do I need to post this in the health topic?

Fungus.

How attractive.

Do they smell?

displayuntiltwelfthnight · 20/12/2009 16:29

mine are a bit like that, although it's my little toe toenails that seem to be breaking - wonder if it's keeping them hidden under layers of socks and in boots in this weather as they're never usually this bad......maybe a stop off at a scholl shop might give some answers?
if you find out, let me know!

cornysxmasmuffmusic · 20/12/2009 16:30

try some cream for athletes foot

WilfSell · 20/12/2009 16:54

They don't smell currently. But they do often. I did wonder about a fungal infection.

Mmmm. Yum. you're all loving this conversation aren't you?

I didn't know Scholl had shops. I might try it, though the shop assistants may just call the police when I take my socks off.

Why did I even open this thread? I hate feet!!!

shopalot · 20/12/2009 19:44

You need some tea tree oil on the nails. Will clear it up quickly or you can buy special fungus stuff from chemist.

SecretSlattern · 20/12/2009 19:47

really shopalot? tea tree does the trick? can you use it when pg?

mawbroon · 20/12/2009 20:17

If it's really bad, then you will need tablets to clear it up.

You have to take them until the nails have grown right out, probably about a year.

I suggest you go to the doc about it.

Bonsoir · 20/12/2009 20:20

Definitely see your GP. If it is a fungal infection it won't go away on its own, it will just get worse and your nails may get irredeemably misshapen. You need prescription medicine.

shopalot · 20/12/2009 20:26

Yes I have found it works no problem. That is what the doctor told me to put on a nail that got a fungal infection under a false nail. I used tea tree when I was pregnant but not sure the up to date advice so you should check first.

I used to do Ballet and we always used to get fungal infections on our feet - always used tea tree. Dancers feet are the worst!!
