Im desperate!
I have long hair, the style that Im always after is a sort of 70s charlies angels look -choppy layers - not too many of them.

I just cant find anyone to do it properly. I went to Rome a few years ago and found an amazing hairdresser who cut it perfectly, went back to have it cut once more but obviously cant continue like this. Found 2 good hairdressers here in north london but theyve vanished.

Id prefer someone who is highly experienced and maybe not too young/ contemporary? AS im after a classic style...
thankyou

in fact, the woman in the Next ad that appears right here on mumsnet - thats the sort of hair I have and the cut I try to achieve. And yes, have taken pictures cut out of magazines to various hairdressers, hopeless.

I had a very good hairdresser at Barrons in Muswell Hill. She was called Emily and from Sheffield. It is an AVeda salon as well so give them a ring and see if she is still there. This was a couple of years ago, but they might tell you where she went.

Laurent at John Frieda on Aldford Street - not cheap though. I would still go if I was not on maternity leave and therefore very poor.

What part of London? Lena at Vidal S in town is brilliant (but leaving early Feb I think) I love Fresh in Blackheath. They are friendly and bloody good at what they do. I have long hair too & Jamie does mine brilliantly every time. He's great .

Hi vannah

If you're after an authentic 70s look done right then I recommend going to Nina's retro hair salon

They are awesome, in NW8 near Edgware Road tube so fairly central.

It looks like they specialize in 40s and 50s but I go there all the time for my 70s inspired bob and they do an excellent job, not obsessed with thinning out and feathering like regular haircutters are trained to do

They are also more affordable than one of the chains ?

kazookazoo · 20/12/2009 09:01

Also you could ask for Nina to do your hair herself (classic style-wise) though I get mine cut by Leila who is younger but really gets the looks I'm after when I go in ? hth

Glass in Carthusian Street- round the corner to the Barbican tube.
Try Peter or Fernando.

Oooh I asked this question about a year ago on here and got the best recommendation. Best hairdresser I have found in years. You need to book with Ben at Eleven (google brings it up) just off Oxford street and truly fabulous.

(Thanks to whoever recommended him to me; I love you!)

vannah · 20/12/2009 20:26

Oh my God! Thankyou thankyou all!!! I dont know who to choose now. Kazookazoo that sounds just totally ideal. I live near Edgware so that might be easy to get to aswell. Also v tempted by your rec blameitonthebogey seeing as you posted the same qu and tried out the recommended hairdresser. What a brilliant idea to ask on here...

Mark Palmer at the Chapel in Islington. Been going for 8 years now. Lovely salon too, keeps winning awards etc. Just the ticket!

Danny Oh in Camden Passage, Islington. Just near Angel tube. I travel across London to see him. And he never disappoints. I get both foils and a cut. Best colour I've ever had and he cuts beautifully.

Dan at Pierpoint in Archer Street, Piccadilly.

I travel from Wales to have my hair cut by him - bet that's the furthest!

(I know it's a bit Cherie Blair but it forces me to catch up with friends in London)
