I'm a flat boot / biker boot girl.

Never wear heals,

I boughta pair of heeled boots, they arrived today and I ma dithering.

Maybe I should send them back? Or give them to my mum for Christmas??

But then sometimes heels are needed?

They feel high and unstable. They don't seem to grip the ground as I walk.

I like them but I just don't know Im Im made for heels.

?

how high are they and what is the sole like?

DecorHate · 16/12/2009 10:45

I have never learned how to wear heels either. I can just about manage up to two inches if they are reasonably chunky. Was out last night and very envious of all the women wearing sparkly-tastic high heels while I was wearing boring ballet flats....

thesockmonsterofdoom · 16/12/2009 10:49

I have recently discovered the joy of heels, now I barely wear my biker boots or converse, I ove the way they make you look tall and slim and feel sexy. I am 35 if that helps, and this is literally in the last few months, I have since turned into a bit of a shoe horder, the redder the better.

DisElfchanted3 · 16/12/2009 11:14

these here

Im not keeping them, I just put them on with the same purple tights and black dress I wear with flat bikers and I look like a prositute, lol.

I just can't get my head around heels,

I bought some lovely velvety heels and I tried to wear them the other day but gave up after 10 mins and went back to my flats, will save them for Xmas day then prob never wear them again.

If you're not used to heels, those are quite a leap! Maybe start with a lower heel?

nickelbabyjesus · 16/12/2009 11:45

i wear them sometimes when i want to be posh, but i take them off at the first oppurtunity (like at dinner, i'll sit barefoot)
if i'm going to a function where i'll be standing i'll wear low heels.
i'm not putting comfort after style for anyone (my body is too important to me)

plus, as a singer, it's a bad thing for your breathing and muscle control if you wear high-heels.

albinosquirrel · 16/12/2009 11:48

i keep thinking this- buying heels and then failing to wear them- there are a number of pairs under my desk at work unworn - and I'm late 30s... then again I keep thinking the same thing about make-up- so maybe I'm not a good role model

Hassled · 16/12/2009 11:50

I think the opposite is true - there comes a time when you don't have to bother any more. My heels are getting progressively lower the older I get.

I do quite like those boots though - they have something of the Victorian Buxom Wench about them .

morningpaper · 16/12/2009 11:53

I started when I turned 30

I asked Mumsnet for help

At that point I owned four pairs of shoes, all which could be described as "sturdy"

I too now have 30 pairs of dirty high heeled shoes under my bed. It is a cheering thought when the rest of my body has gone to pot - I can just distract people with my Nice Shoes and Negliges

LukaSweetBabyJesus · 16/12/2009 11:56

I think I'm Morning Paper
I also agree with shimmy that those are a big leap to make from biker boots

Francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2009 11:57

I too have never learnt to wear heels. Which is good, as I would want to have expensive ones which I can't afford or would feel guilty to spend money on...

VerityBrulee · 16/12/2009 12:57

I've been making a big effort to wear heels more, I'm 5'3", I need to.

These boots are sooo comfortable, I can run in them, and they make me feel much more together and grown up than flats!

MadameDuBain · 16/12/2009 13:03

I can't do it. I'm tall, large-framed and have huge hobbit feet. I once had some very modestly heeled boots which I quite liked and I fell over - right over slap bang on my face - on a slippery floor in - I have to confess - Greggs. The shame.

I do look at some of the shoes in fashion mags and think they're beautiful, and I would love to be a woman who could do that look occasionally, but they would have to make them specially for me as I can never get into them, and then I would have to go by sedan chair as I couldn't risk walking even a few steps.

But I do wish they would take the aesthetic values of posh party heels and just make non- or low-heeled versions. Flats aren't just flat, they're always a different style entirely.

Heqet · 16/12/2009 13:11

I hate heels - proper heels I mean, spikey ones. And anything too high has me in serious danger of falling off and breaking an ankle!

I wear ones with a wedge rather than a heel that sort of heel

LowLevelBahHumbug · 16/12/2009 13:17

Ooh, verity, those are nice. I am a complete heel numpty but they seem rather, um approachable! I'm almost tempted...

motherinferior · 16/12/2009 13:18

I am five foot tall, and 46.

Despite these alleged drawbacks, I cannot be arsed with wearing heels (also I have very small feet, two and a half, which are tilted disproportionately by any heel).

LastOfTheMulledWine · 16/12/2009 13:22

I have NEVER worn heels. I live in Dr Martens of various colours, the clumpier and chunkier the better and slippers. Otherwise, I'm barefoot.

If I wore heels I'd look like a man in drag.

deaddei · 16/12/2009 13:22

I am over 6 feet tall and loved heels when younger- but live in boots and ballet flats. I find that as everyone's shorter than me, I hunch over which looks awful.
A great shame, as I have 36 inch inside legs in great nick for a menopausal woman and I always felt very sexy in heels

Bonsoir · 16/12/2009 13:26

deaddei - can't you just wear short skirts and flat knee-high boots, and flash a lot of toned calf in tights? Très sexy when you are no longer in the first flush...

deaddei · 16/12/2009 13:27

I do Bonsoir
I have some fab Duo boots which I love- I am very popular at work when I wear them!!!!

fishie · 16/12/2009 14:31

mi i have quite large feet but they still look trotterish in heels.

snowmummy · 16/12/2009 16:08

I can't do heels either. I only ever wear them for special occasions when I have my husband with me to hold onto so I don't fall over.

DisElfchanted3 · 16/12/2009 17:44

Good to know Im not alone

NorkilyChallenged · 16/12/2009 17:44

I've actually reached the time in my life where I think I can't wear heels at all.

Yep. Old lady bunion is starting to make its presence felt.

Am 36.

(Never really wore heels when younger either so development of bunion really disappointing, I was always sturdy comfy shoe girl even in my teens)

deaddei · 16/12/2009 17:45

i do have heels which I get out of their box and say hello to........
