Sheer Tights

Does anyone still wear sheer tights?
I only ever wear opeques or fishnets these days.

opaques

cornsilklikeshumous · 15/12/2009 17:44

What do you wear fishnets with? (nosy)

austinsmam · 15/12/2009 17:50

Longish dresses and skirts, only for those rare nights out though

I saw a woman wearing fishnets with a shortish skirt the other day. Didn't like them with that outfit. I used to wear them in my yoof though. I even had a white pair in the 80's.

austinsmam · 15/12/2009 17:56

My days of wearing short skirts are long gone And even to get the chance to dress up does not happen that often

they are coming back in i read

cornsilklikeshumous · 15/12/2009 17:58

Really? They can look nice I think but not with everything.

austinsmam · 15/12/2009 19:46

Brian What are coming back?

I love microfishnets - you can hardly see that they are fishnet, and are soo hard wearing its unbelievable.

I do wear sheer tights for super best work purposes - actually, usually sheer holdup stockings though

tulpe · 15/12/2009 19:53

Seems like all the youngsters are making a move towards sheer these days, if the Top Shop website is anything to go by.

I think fishnets can look nice as long as the dress/skirt is knee length and worn with simple black heels....otherwise I think it is too easy to stray into dodgy Liz MacDonald territory.

Personally, I am an opaques fan - mostly Wolford velvets. Bought my first pair of Falke today and cannot wait to wear them.

austinsmam · 15/12/2009 20:07

tulpe are Wolfords and Falkes really worth the extra £££?

OP posts:
CMOTdibbler · 15/12/2009 20:10

I don't know about Wolford (they don't do a tall fit, so I don't buy them), but Falke are really the dogs doodahs imo

austinsmam · 15/12/2009 20:56

I cant justify paying more for a pair of tights, than i pay for a skirt

MadBadandCoveredinTinsel · 15/12/2009 21:01

I do own some sheer tights but never wear them. Am thoroughly bored with black opaques, so now it's coloured opaques, lace or fishnets.

Cmot - where does one buy these micronets of which you speak?

eshermummy · 15/12/2009 21:11

Isn't the new thing a revival of all those sheer dotty/ lacy tights from the 80's?
I think black sheers are just about ok if they have a pattern such as dotty etc
Flesh coloured sheers (even good ones) are old fashioned/out.
Coloured & patterned sheers is where it's at I think - I quite like idea of these with party/evening dress/skirt although tend to be quite unforgiving.

Opaques much more forgiving obviously but I personally find black opaques a bit boring now and mumsy

CMOTdibbler · 15/12/2009 21:18

I favour Levante but the Jonathan Aston ones are OK too.

MadBadandCoveredinTinsel · 15/12/2009 21:20

Eshermummy - Really? I was thinking only the other day about the zillions of pairs of Christian Dior dotty tights I bought to wear to dance to Wham! in the 1980s.

I have already succumbed to the lace tights revival. What will be revived next I wonder? Ruffled shirts and knickerbockers?

austinsmam · 15/12/2009 22:14

I think i am the wrong side of 30 to carry off the dotty tights

OP posts:
eshermummy · 15/12/2009 22:20

You say that now but......in a few months when they are everywhere I am sure we will all be sucumbing.
Who thought coloured opaques would be so mainstream a year or two ago? Likewise with lacy tights.....

You DO need great legs to wear them with a kitten heel (also on its way back apparently!) and a mini skirt but less so if it's only 2/3 inches on show between knee high boots/hem of skirt.

poinsettydawg · 15/12/2009 22:23

no, my legs look terrible in sheers. I have strong legs.

austinsmam · 15/12/2009 22:27

I have never liked lacy tights. And cant see myself getting any dotty ones. Not sure how long a pair of sheers would last on me with DS`s

MadBadandCoveredinTinsel · 16/12/2009 11:00

"Strong" legs. Yes, me too, poinsettydog.

austinsmam · 16/12/2009 19:44

Strong legs??

OP posts:
poinsettydawg · 16/12/2009 21:12

yes, strong legs. Euphemism of sorts. Chunky, wide and muscular, whatever.
