Under eye dark circles - how to treat and best cover up?

Since having DS (2.4) the dark circles under my eyes have become more and more prominent. I'm sure it's partly genetic, but mostly tiredness and not looking after myself re: healthy diet (which I'm trying to improve)

Anyway, I used to use an eye cream called Nivea anti-shadow or something - but I couldn't find it in Boots today. Can anyone recommend an eye cream which can help make my eye bags less dark?

I currently use Dermalogia multi vitamin power firm for eyes and lips which is an anti-wrinkle thing and I'm starting to wonder if this is making my dark circles worse!?

Also I think my YSL Touch Eclat is about to run out so I want a replacement, and although it's pretty good at covering the darkness it doesn't seem to last very long and I end up reapplying several times a day. Is there anything similar but longer lasting? Thanks all

Sisley phytonutrient anti-poches cream concealer - comes in 4 shades, has staying power and is heavily pigmented and light reflecting but blends well. Also seems to help bags/puffiness.

If you ask at the Sisley counter the asst will probably check your shade and give you a sample sachet to try.

You can get a cheapo Touch Eclat from Aldi which is only about £3 or something, it's almost as good.

I also read this for under eye circles: the post 3rd down by fawnie

without doubt- Bobbi Brown concealer. Touch Eclat is really a highlighter- I used to use it, but then discovered BB. Comes in 14 shades and is wonderfully light-reflecting. You can also get it with a tiny powder pot which sets the concealer, but can make your lines a bit more obvious- but the cream is great.

My daughter discussed dark circles with her dermatologist, whilst consulting her about her acne- and was told they are genetic and are due to thin skin under the eyes. No cure- just more sleep and good make up!

When you sue concelaer for shadows, be careful not to put too much on the eye bag itself, as it can highlight it- try to put the concealer on the half circle of darkness, so that it lightens it and stops it looking hollow.

I think that Traditional Chinese medicine practioners would suggest that dark eye circles are related to the kidney energy so being well hydrated may help.

Can't do any harm

Thanks all for the input. I will definitely try the Bobbi Brown and Sisley sample

unfortunately I don't have a local Aldi but the gelatin thing sounds interesting!

Montifer I am a fan of acupuncture etc so I can see where you're coming from and will increase my water intake, like you say it can't hurt!

I second Sisley - brilliant products and they are generous with samples.

I have that Nivea eyecream thelemur - it has changed name and packaging but still comes in a little glass pot in a box, it is now called Nivea Visage Aqua Sensations Anti Shadow Eye Cream. HTH It is good that's why I tracked it down, looked in a oots but no luck, think I found it in superdrug in the end.

Am now going to read the make up recommendations as my hairdresser told me to put some slap on the other day!

also I think that darkness under eyes is more prominent if the skin is not well hydrated. I use clinique all about eyes moisturiser which seems to work well.

Bobbi brown eye brightener is great and comes in lots of shades so you get a good match. Benefit erase paste is similar but not quite as good IME.

A magazine I read rated the Clinique version of Touche Eclat as their number 1, and I have to say it is very good.

the estee lauder version of touche eclat is the best imo. i've tried them all. i'm a panda.

but when it comes to actually getting RID of the dark circles, i'm still looking for a cream that will do that.

i HAV~E tried not drinking. when i was prg and for 6 months after each time i wasn't drinking. still had dark circles.

benefit boing is great so is a good blusher, stops one having the pallour of a corpse bride

It's also because your skin is very thin here and it's your veins showing through. You can't get rid of them if this is the case. Unless you are prepared to bleed to death.

I think Benefit Bo-ing is a bit dark and it gets stuck in my wrinkles. I like the pale top-of-the-eyelids one (lemon aid?) that comes with it in the gift sets though - when I look really knackered it always works wonders.

L'oreal derma genesis has made a noticable difference to my dark circles since I started using it recently. Not the eye cream, I just use the day and night moisturisers under my eyes.

Alcohol is a red herring, I don't drink but I have had dark circles (at one stage they were purple ) for years. A treatment called Hylexin really made a difference when they were v bad, faded them from purple to lilac, but it cost 165 Euro IIRC.

purplepeony I'm evangelical about Bobbi Brown's creamy concealer but you got here first!

The creamy concealer is fab (but agree the powder isn't always appropriate - it sometimes does weird things for me). I had a makeover at BB recently, and for me the girl very politely suggested a bisque as well. I.e. 'god your eyebags are extreme madam how could you leave the house looking like that'. Here it is but get a consultant to help. It's most bizarre - it's quite pinky but it works - it sort of brings my bags closer to skin colour, and then you can cover with the concealer.
She did one eye for me and I nearly cried - I've never got my credit card out so quickly.

essie- it's great isn't it?
I have used Touche Eclat, Clinique, Prescriptives and Estee Lauder, but like BB the best.
