How do you disguise horrible scabby spots so that you are able to leave the house without a scarf wrapped round your face?

So..... you know when you've had a nasty spot and you squeeze and squeeze at it but nothing really comes out?

And then you're left with this horrible, open weepy mess on your chin?

And then it starts healing over in a big lumpy scab?

Which you probably pick at?

No? Lucky you. If you feel my pain, read on and tell me what to do.

How in the fuck do you disguise it? It looks bloody awful but concealer (from Touche Eclat to heavy duty panstick type stuff) seems to highlight rather than camouflage it, the same with foundation and powder - I just look like I've got a huge pink cornflake stuck to my chin.

Would be very grateful for your wisdom.

I've been there, notanumber - many times!

There's nothing really you can do, I'm afraid - cept grin and bare it!

Make-up won't hide it and will prolly makes it worse.

Dab with a little savlon so that it'll heal/prevent infection and go about your business. Pretend it's not there - usually gets me through!

I cannot resiste the urge to squeeze spots so have this problem once a month with huge craters somwwhere on my face. usually on my chin or forehead so always v. visible

I've found that using clinique superfit makeup and lancome concealer are best, set with a fine dusting of translucent powder to cover.

I would say don't pick but would be rather hypocritical of me!

I don't disguise it when this happens to me.

In fact my 3yo really enjoys pointing out "mummy's scab" !

Been there too. Even though every time I tell myself "leave it alone, it won't squeeze, it will just weep a bit then scab over and look horrid", do I listen? Do I heck.

Origins have a brilliant (and I mean brilliant!) bottle of spot-clear stuff for about a tenner; dab a drop on with a cotton bud, leave it to dry and it pretty much vanishes the spot by morning. Even if you've been stupid enough to try to squeeze it.

And Mac cover up (the small pots, not the liquid or pens) is great stuff, as its a bit more yellow (I like NC20, but I've got v v pale skin) so it calms down the redness rather than nighlighting it.

Good luck

highlighting. Obviously.

I second using Clinique superfit makeup - it covers the worst spots i've ever had and I don't even need to put any more on throughout the day. I got a small trial of it and I just use it when I have spots.

I also wear a ridiculous amount of eye make up in a bit to detract people's vision from my spot to my eyes...even if they think "blimey she's got loads of eye make up on for a Monday morning" it's a sign they've noticed that first!

Thank you all.

Will buy Clinique Superfit tomorrow. And will try not to pick.

i'm a picker too, i find by trying to cover the scab just makes the healing process take longer. I dab it with savlon and then wear light makeup usually a tinted moisturiser on the rest of my face and some under eye concealer so i don't look too ill, i look like i'm not wearing makeup rather than a made up face with a big highlighted/badly covered scab.

Once the scab is gone and you are left with a dark mark i use benefits boi-ing concealer to cover.

I quite often get spots like that, and no matter how much to squeeze nothing comes out.

CybilServant · 14/12/2009 21:05

notanumber I used to suffer with those horrible boil under the skin type spots a lot.

But then I stared taking my make up off with a flannel every night and the exfoliation has transformed my skin, i rarely if ever get spots now.

Keep exfoliating the area and moisturising it and it will be better in a couple of days. But you will scar if you keep squeezing!

Read the whole of this site for helping you to stop picking spots

Some of it is a bit silly - like there's a lot that goes on about picking being the result of self-esteem problems, which is probably true for some, but surely just wanting to get the pus out is a good enough reason for many! But it's actually quite helpful in making you think twice about picking and squeezing, thus avoiding the whole weepy scab issue.
