I have found the cure for acne

Well, my own personal cure. I've never had great skin, though it did improve a few years ago when I started using Dermalogica products. I'm in my mid-thirties.

Anyway, I'm breastfeeding and DS has been very colicky so I decided to give up dairy as an experiment. DS is less upset and my skin is the best ever. It is blemish free and really smooth.

I'm delighted but a little sad as I love cheese, butter and yoghurt. I expect I'll go back to dairy in the future but maybe not too much.

Anyone else had the same thing?

Oh no I love cheese and chocolate! My skin is really getting me down though...

SausageRocket · 11/12/2009 14:49

Well I don't eat much dairy as it is and I have crappo skin. Despite drinking lots of water, no fizzy drinks, blah, blah.

reup · 11/12/2009 14:52

I gave up dairy and wheat and yeast for a miserable 6 months. No change in my spots or psoriasis.

naturelover · 11/12/2009 14:53

SausageRocket, have you tried Dermalogica? Maybe that would suit your skin. Make sure you have your skin looked at by a good therapist, you can always buy online to save money.

FWIW I don't drink alcohol, eat lots of fruit & veg and also drink lots of water... but I get very little sleep (new baby), no exercise except running after toddler, and haven't been near a beauty salon for years.

yes have tried dermalogica. It was ok but not brilliant. I use Liz Earle at the moment which is pretty good but to be honest I think I am just unlucky skin-wise. It is my beauty cross to bear, lol.

naturelover · 11/12/2009 15:01

There is no justice in the world SausageRocket is there? I was always the healthy-eating spotty kid... it's not fair!

Knowing my luck, the dairy-free thing will stop working and my skin will change again for some unfathomable hormone-related reason at some point.

Ok then, I'll have another Hobnob! Seriously though naturelover, good for you and glad your skin's looking well.

My acne appeared at 25, before that my skin was pretty flawless apart from blackheads. No product has made any difference whatsoever. Have spent a fortune. The Oil cleansing method helps a bit.

I'm getting no sleep or exercise, due to looking after a toddler all day and evening six days a week AND working from home some naptimes and nights until stupid o'clock to keep us all under this roof and stocked up with hobnobs. Plus the tiredness and stress are causing me to eat shedloads. All this plays havoc with my skin...

I posted this in general health but AnyFuleKno recommended the regime on acne.org and it has totally worked for me. And I haven't changed my diet or switched to ver expensive skincare either

PirateCatintheXmasHat · 12/12/2009 18:12

spicemonster, what regime?

i have a post on here today about my skin, if anyone can help!

skin probs

spicemonster · 12/12/2009 18:19

This one. Honestly it has transformed my skin. And I have given up all the antibiotics and topical lotions and everything else I've been using and just do this instead

ArizonaBarker · 12/12/2009 18:29

spicemonster - What benzoyl peroxide product do you use for this?

spicemonster · 12/12/2009 18:35

Panoxyl 2.5%. You can get it over the counter in pretty much any chemist or online. It only comes in pretty small tubes and I reckon you'll get through about one a month but it's £3 or so a tube so not too expensive.

ArizonaBarker · 12/12/2009 20:29

Thanks, spicemonster.

I've always suffered with bad skin but have found my miracle cure (thanks to my very understanding GP!). It's a topical lotion called Acnecide which is 5% Benzoyl Peroxide.

Have been using it for a while now & it has totally cleared up my skin. My GP suggested using aqueous cream as a cleanser as the Acencide can really dry your skin out (it basically strips of all the dead skincells).

So my morning AND night skin routine now is a) cleanse with Boots skin therapy aqueous cream (again, highly recommended!) b) apply acnecide to affected areas c) apply a good quality moisturiser suitable for dry skin - curretly using Skin Drink from Lush.

This really has made a huge difference to my skin & i can even leave the house now without applying shed loads of make up first (shock horror)!!

Oddly enough, even though i only apply it to my face, it actually cleared up the horrendous boils i use to get across my back & shoulders as well.

Having suffered with acne since puberty (am now 35) i've tried just about everything going & this really is the only thing that has truly worked long term for me. Been using it for about 18 months & noticed a big difference within just a few weeks of using it.

HTH! x

I tried Benzoyl Peroxide when my skin was bad a couple of years ago, following the regime spicemonster has posted the link to, but I couldn't put up with the redness and flaking of my skin. Reading this I don't think I was using a good enough moisturiser. My skin was lovely during pregnancy and usually fine for the first year of dd's life, but it's a disaster again, so I think I'll try this again. Thanks for reminding me of Benzoyl Peroxide!

spicemonster · 13/12/2009 10:05

I only use 2.5% which so far hasn't made my skin flake. And I only do it at night. I have got really sensitive skin so I thought I'd start off gently. It's worked brilliantly.

expatinscotland · 25/12/2009 22:51

Wondering if anyone's tried Neutrogena Visibly Clear?

I've got combination skin and break out especially around my mouth and chin.

It's hormonal, too, and at nearly 39 I'm pretty sick of it.

I had brilliant skin as a teenager.
