I Absolutely HATE my New Hair Style

I went to a new salon a couple of weeks ago & said to the chap I want my swishy like this. I don't want to do anything to it other than wash & dry it. He asked if I used straigteners & I said no.

Anyway, he blow dried it in a flicky style, so when I came out I put it in a hair band. Was in a hurry to do a school run - and he took ages to blow dry it.
The upshot is that after washing it, looked rubbish - lumpy, all hangy round my neck - not what I wanted.
I rang & complained & they called me in said yes, not great, we;ll sort it out. The owner cuts it, I tell him what I don't like. He basically ignores this & chop chop chops into my hair. Which started out shoulder blade lengh. Looked OK in the shop - was in a hurry - he took about 1.5 hours. Now I have the longest layer being ear length & about 4-5 inches of HORRIBLE, almost frilly layers all round the bottom.
I bloody hate it & I'm miserable. I've got a headache - what can I do ?? (Actually, I'm going off to cry) or rather what can be done ?

oh dear-I've been known to cry after a bad haircut too, it's just gutting isn't it

not sure what you can do tbh
is it all possible to put it up? or is it just too short? sorry can't really visualise it from your description

you have my sympathy if that helps at all

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/12/2009 11:54

Oh poor you - sympathies, it really is horrible when you feel your hair looks crap.

I tried to save myself some money last week and died my hair at home. It went orange like Toyah Wilcox in the 80s. I cried my eyes out, and was called Geri Halliwell/Oompa Loompa/Rula Lenska all week at work until was able to go to hairdresser to sort it out.

I suppose you are too scared to go again in case they chop more off in a crap way.

teameric · 10/12/2009 12:01

can't you go to your usual salon to get it sorted? I agree makes you feel like shit when you hate your hair. Can you tie it back? maybe leave it to grow out a bit till you get it sorted?

miche8 · 10/12/2009 14:47

Sounds similar to what i had done, the top layer was too short and made it too bouncy with silly flicky out longer layers. It looks better if i run the straightners through it, some i said i didn't want to be doing every morning. Had it cut in october half term but my neighbours daughter and i've booked in somewhere expensive next week, hoping they can trim the longest layer so theres not too much of a difference. Ideally i'd like danni minogues blunt bob will have to see what they say. I'd probably wait and not get it cut again until it grows a bit, have a play around....

ConnorTraceptive · 10/12/2009 14:54

Oh god I remember crying once whilst still in the chair at the hairdresser's. "No love I didn't ask to look like a Bay City Roller"

bandgeek · 10/12/2009 14:58

My hairdresser gave me a mullet 2 years ago. I cried for days - had to tie it back and be very creative with hair clips for a while.

I've now grown it long, and am never getting it cut short again!!

Feelingforty · 10/12/2009 15:32

Thanks for your sympathies - am thinking of changing my name to helmet head.

After getting myself if a state I rang & spoke to the owner & said I hated it & that my hair was ruined. He meekly said sorry & that he'd done a good job of sorting out the other guys work. He's said to let it grow for a couple of months & then they are going to re-shape it for free.

They did offer to blow dry it for me like that's going to make a difference...

I think it's the least they can do...I was debating on getting trimmed somewhere else, but will tie bits up.

miche8 your hair style sounds like mine.

Off to buy some tortoise shell hair clips...

If it's the layers that are too short, straighten your hair with really hot straightners when it is still slightly damp and then run serum/wax through your hair to keep it smooth.

ChatterClausIsComingToTown · 10/12/2009 16:04

You have my sympathy. Perhaps (if nothing short of growth is going to sort your hair out)you should go and splash out on some new make up and a few new pieces of clothing to lift your mood. This might distract you from your hair and boost your confidence. Maybe buy some new hairbands too (alice band style) and grips to see if you can dress hair up in a way that makes you feel better.

minxofmancunia · 10/12/2009 16:11

you have my sympathies I'm never happy after a cut and as a result have had the same hairstyle for years as I'm too anxious to try anything different.

Hairband and pretty clips seem like the best way for you to go....

BendyBob · 10/12/2009 16:14

So sorry for you.

I've also had some of my worst moments in hairdressers. That awful sick moment when you realise this is all going horribly wrong.

Far too many people out there cutting hair that are utterly hopeless at it imo.

This time last year I paid a lot of money for what turned out to be an appalling haircut. Although I rang afterwards to complain, I didn't go back. The most senior person had cut it in the first place and I just couldn't bring myself to let her near me again

There ought to be more regulation and consumer protection I think.

twittergirl · 10/12/2009 16:58

Oh no - poor you

I have also had the scenario where layers have been cut too short and flick out too much. In fact it happened to me for years and I have also cried over many a haircut too.

If it helps for your next haircut, what I do now is be very clear about the shortest length of layer I will tolerate. It is pretty much the first thing I say to them and I am really firm about it now and this seems to be working.

Feelingforty · 10/12/2009 17:52

I agree, there definitely should be some sort of compensation - I've got to live with this 'do' until it grows enough to be recut, or else go shorter. I've just paid £70 to have it coloured & they've cut half of that out too

Amandoh · 10/12/2009 17:59

Oh poor you. It really is awful when you hate your hair. I've never had a bad hair cut as I just trim mine rather than have it cut into a style (Too much of a chicken!) but I have hated the colour at times so I do understand.

Why don't you treat yourself to a couple of hats? I know you can't wear them all the time but it might save you faffing about with it if you're just popping out to the shops.

Flame · 10/12/2009 18:50

I feel for you. I had The McClusky last October and was miserable until it grew out (and that was the second, better cut).

I did get better at making it look less hideous with practice (s? I never know...)

Not that that is a big happy for you .
