PG - what did you wear in that 'in-between' stage before wearing maternity clothes?

I'm 8wks along but so bloated round the stomach that my jeans, work trousers and skirts cut me in half. Apart from my PJs, everything I own has a fitted waistband. I'm not adverse to something elasticated, but that just conjures images of Per Una

Please point me in the right direction so I can breathe. Figure anything bought now I'll also get use out of once the baby is born.

I had one of these.

Was very useful all through pregnancy and meant I could wear my usual clothes for much of the time.

Thanks DaftApeth, I did try something very similar with pg no1 (quite a bit later on though) and was forever hitching my clothes up. Maybe worth another go though.

Caught myself considering the contents of dh's wardrobe today.

Tunic dresses are very forgiving, this is nice, also this (more casual)

Have you got any 'fat' trousers - if not may be worth buying a couple, just jeans a couple of sizes bigger than usual! I used elastic hairbands to do my trousers up for a while, but felt much more comfy in maternity jeans from about 13 weeks onwards (under the bump jeans). Non-maternity skirts with elasticated waistbands are great, a friend lent me hers for my first pregnancy but I have no idea where she had bought them from. Oh, and long / A-line tops a couple of sizes bigger than usual, again bought cheap from Topshop and H&M. In fact I found that non maternity tops worked much better for me than maternity ones even at 9 months pg! Congratulations by the way.

Tunic tops and leggings will be stretchy or wrap dresses are quite forgiving as you can adjust to accomodate the bump. I did often resort to an elastic band through the button hole wrapped around the button to stop trousers falling down but allow a bit of stretch - just make sure you've got a long top / jumper to cover it

I've seen lots of empire line dresses in Zara recently.
I've always found zara really good for non maternity clothes which are perfect when pg as well.

I never bought maternity clothes. I had a couple of wraparound skirts and another couple of skirts with knitted waistbands (not elastic as such, but they "give" more); plus an old pair of black "harem" trousers with a huge knit waisband (thank God I never throw things out!). A friend also bought me a set of waistband expanders - buttons on an elasticated wire loop that give your waistbands a couple more inches. Available from Kleeneze and the other home cataloguey thing; or you could get this kit instead

Thank you for the links Ilovejonty. I do like the shape of the first one very much, but black drains me, but definitely along the right lines. The second would be a better colour on me but the clingy nature of it would expose every lump and bump.

Now HeiligFeierabend, RoseWater & ThumbleBells where are these magically expanding clothes of which you speak?
