What would a newborn wear to his own christening these days?

Is he required to wear a full white gown type affair? Please tell me no.....

He will be 4 weeks old, and this is for MIL/DH so it is not an area i am familiar with. DH thinks he can just wear a sleep suit! I want him to look nice, but cannot bring myself to have him wear a proper long gown...

I think although do not quote me, that it is the Name Thanksgiving rather than a full baptism? But i might well be wrong.

mine just wore a cute dungaree set

it hink baptismal dresses are a bit nouveau tbh

dd wore full length family dress, ds1 wore a white sailor type suit (romper type)-was Summer. ds wore a velour sleepsuit with a little bit of embroidery on and was wrapped in a cream blanket as it was december.

I would go for the sleepsuit idea at 4 weeks and wrap him in a blanket/shawl as he will probably be sick and you will need to change him anyway!!

Mine son has just been baptised so wore the family gown (silk romper with pale blue collar)looked uber cute but he could just wear a romper, some lovely white/cream ones.

I had a sarah louise romper and jacket lined up but he outgrew it before we got round to sort it out so that will be going onto Ebay!

if it's a naming ceremony as opposed to christening he can where what ever you want. the point of wearing white to a christening is to symbolise purity.

I picked up a white shirt from H & M and a pair of white trousers from pumpkin patch sale (looked quite funky) for my sons christening last month though he was 6 months so a little less likely to puke on himself had a white sleepsuit as standby outfit

if your after a dungeree set next do a nice one in there unisex range

I would go for something between a sleepsuit and a romper-suit. Buy him a nice outfit, that you like. There'll be photos, don't forget!

DS had a Humphrey's corner dungaree set for his (with matching hat IIRC).

my DSs all wore dungaree sets and, at the appropriate moment in the ceremony, were given a "white garment" (like a poncho/shawl thing) that my Mum made.

They don['t have to to wear white clothes as well.

I would go for a smart outfit(not sleepsuit)

PrammyMammy · 04/12/2009 16:47

I wouldn't go for a sleepsuit as it is a special day and newborns usually spend most days in a sleep suit.
My DD has a long silk and lace gown with matching silk bonnet for the blessing and a silk romper for the after party. She has a personalised shawl for white garment.

We have yet to order DS but knew we wanted him to wear something traditional, but not so frilly and fancy as most gowns. this is what i think we are going for, you should have a look at her shop, she makes lovely rompers too. For the after party just a smart white outfit, and he also has a shawl.

If it is a naming day rather than a christening or baptism, you can have him wear anything you want, but i would pick something ither than a sleep suit as it is still a special day.

my son had a dedication and he wore a little shirt and trousers I think in winter a cute dungaree set would look cute
doesn't have to be white can be bright if thats what you like him in
