FUGLY BUT WARM

Right, this might be the first of a few queries from me this evening......

It was below zero on my school run this morning and I suddenly had flashbacks to last jan/feb and all that snow and I want to be prepared.
Plus, it was cold but bright this arvo and I thought I really should take dd's to the park but I detest hanging around in the freezing cold and although I have lots of boots none of them are particularly warm.

So what do you think of

these

or these

or even these

Granted they are all fugly and the last ones are a but reminiscent of Colleen in those moonboots but I am telling myself that these boots are actually going to improve my parenting skills thus enriching the lives of the dd's and therefore worth it

ooh HoG I love those in silver!!

mistletoemulledwinemoodlum · 01/12/2009 21:29

OMG this is a whole new area of footwear I'd never really considered. And now love.

have just asked father christmas for these

eshermummy · 01/12/2009 21:30

Tulpe - they are the TNF ones I originally linked to !! - on reflection I think maybe I like them the best.

heartofgold - I do indeed have feet small enough for kiddies sizes - good price on those - not sure about the fur bit although is not awful.....

Fugly confession coming up - I ahve a bit of a thing for all things puffa (have confessed to this before on here and been flamed for it but am unrepentant ). I have a couple of puffa coats/jackets and I secretly hanker after one of those new puffa style Chanel handbags

Stop it. Its too much. Stuff the fancy schmancy duo boots I wanted, I want fugly silver moonboots.

tulpe · 01/12/2009 21:34

Eshermummy - these are the ones I have. Wore them with skinny jeans on return from ski hols and didn't feel a tw+t. They aren't as fugly irl as they appear on the site.

heartofgold · 01/12/2009 21:34

if anyone is seriously considering the cosmonaut boots (which i kind of am - spent all last winter in a pair of moonboot-lite rocket dogs that have now shredded and need replacing... ) i'm reading reviews that say they come up a full size too small.

CrankyFuckingWanky · 01/12/2009 21:34

Wellies are too cold.

Furry boots are not waterproof.

These sort of thing are the way forward IMO.

I'm looking for a pull-on pair.

We live in Britain, people! It is mostly cold and wet.

suggy · 01/12/2009 21:35

but look again they have dodgy 70s trainer soles... but they're sold by asos so it must be cool

tulpe · 01/12/2009 21:35

oh and excuse my "too busy trying to give advice rather than reading thread properly" moment

eshermummy · 01/12/2009 21:36

I like those cosmonaut ones too heartofgold. I think it's toss-up between those and the TNF Nuptse ones.

I know, I didn't realise how many fugly boots there were out there...or how much I liked them.....all

CrankyFuckingWanky · 01/12/2009 21:40

Didn't read all links before posting mine!

suggy · 01/12/2009 21:44

Tulpe... are the ellis brig ones waterproof ? I think fugly boots are only one step on from the current big biker/workboot trend...

eshermummy · 01/12/2009 21:45

Maybe I used the word incorrectly and confused everyone but for me "fugly" has good connotations - ugly but so ugly they're actually nice iykwim.

I actually dress quite conservatively/tastefully so I love mixing it up with something completely OTT/tasteless/wagtastic.

I also love having warm feet

OP posts:
heartofgold · 01/12/2009 21:48

cosmonauts a fraction cheaper

tulpe · 01/12/2009 21:51

Suggy - EB ones definitely waterproof. Traipsed through very deep (and occasionally soggy & sludgy) snow in French alps and here in UK in them and retained snuggli-ness of feet throughout I know they are very cheap compared to others but they perform very well.........I really feel the cold but my feet were toasty warm in them.

tulpe · 01/12/2009 21:52

Eshermummy.......does "Fugly" mean "fabulously ugly" to you??

eshermummy · 01/12/2009 21:59

yes

OP posts:
tulpe · 01/12/2009 22:08

You see, I totally get that concept

charlotteolivia · 01/12/2009 23:07

get yourself to tkmaxx. they had loads of these types of boot!

Chandon · 02/12/2009 08:34

Sheepskin lined welly boots from Celtic Sheepskin, cost a bit, warm and dry feet for a life time, and they´re NEUTRAL!!!

heartofgold · 02/12/2009 08:57

check out the polar 77s further down this page, am seriously tempted. (there's even a matching handbag esher )

BonjourIvressedeNoel · 02/12/2009 19:02

I have ones that look like the first ones. They only come out when there is proper snow, I wear them to walk to school then. Fugly, but very grippy aand warm..

Tortington · 02/12/2009 19:04

i'd rather put two pairs of socks on than wear those!

Tortington · 02/12/2009 19:12

there are lots of stylish wool lined ones if you google

dairymoo · 02/12/2009 19:18

If you want fugly, check these little beauts out. I have a pair and have to say that I love how they keep all nice and cosy and warm when there's snow around, but my goodness they are hideous.
