her. Blokes in the pub told me I looked like her Plus of course, the ubiquitous Bananarama

eatsshootsleaves, they were very cool though [approval]

LetThemEatCake · 30/11/2009 22:39

I won a Madonna lookalike and - oh the shame -dancealike contest when I was 13!!

got tix to see Desperately Seeking Susan out of it though ... and thus began my lifelong love of Aidan Quinn ...

wineslurper · 30/11/2009 22:42

OOooooooo... if you'd have asked me back then i'd have said a mix between Clare Grogan (am Scottish and small) Madonna and Kate Bush..., but probably looked like a startled gum chewing ferret in a hairspray factory...

hohoholepew · 30/11/2009 22:44

Oh me too, I had a lovely bob. Unfortunately before I became a classy goth [cough] I modelled myself on her. One arm is still longer than the other from wearing bangles.

hohoholepew · 30/11/2009 22:46

And my most embarassing Bob

serenity · 30/11/2009 22:56

Oh no that's not embarrassing! I did the Robert Smith thing too - sort of Fat Bob/Siouxsie Sioux cross (think slightly slutty cross-dressing Fat Bob)

Attractive or what?!

wineslurper · 30/11/2009 22:57

hohoholepew you just made me splutter all over the keyboard!! ah, the nostalgia!! and Bob's lipstick was just soooooooo cool! I still have nightmares about the fingerless lace gloves (what was the point?)tube skirts and silly, silly, silly quantities of eyeliner...

PerArduaAdSolInvictus · 30/11/2009 23:02

I still want to look like Chrissie Hynde when I grow up

tulpe · 30/11/2009 23:17

oh yes, Madonna all the way, baby!! Tube skirts or mini skirts over leggings (H&M opened in the city I grew up in in 1985......twas fab!), fishnet vest tops over dayglo or black vests. And either black stilettos or black pumps. And of course black lace fingerless gloves

said · 30/11/2009 23:20

Teens = Kate Bush. Would have liked to look like Chrissie Hynde but hair straighteners weren't around then. Early 20s = bass player from the Bangles. Just the bass player

Cicatrice · 01/12/2009 15:34

Morrisey

bintofbohemia · 01/12/2009 15:37

Robert Plant. That's fucked up, isn't it?

bintofbohemia · 01/12/2009 20:02

so fucked up that I killed the thread...

muddlinleigh · 01/12/2009 20:16

Beatrice Dalle - I wore lots of black eyeliner and pouted a lot.

heartofgold · 01/12/2009 20:16

mostly people in comics

tutu100 · 01/12/2009 20:21

I tried to look like Shirley Mansun from Garbage in the early 90's.

tummytickler · 01/12/2009 20:25

This is very embarassing for me and i would never admit is in real life, but . . . Courtney Love - I looked fab, much better than her I think . Had the checked shirt and cardigan wearing boyfriend too!
She looks awful now though!

tummytickler · 01/12/2009 20:26

tutu100 - Shirley Manson was cool!

NinthWave · 01/12/2009 20:29

Courtney Love

Then Drew Barrymore (I looked quite a lot like her apparently)

NinthWave · 01/12/2009 20:30

Awww TummyTickler, nighties as day wear, ripped fishnets and visible bra straps?

tummytickler · 01/12/2009 20:47

I still wear vaguely nightie looking dresses - a habit i just cant shake and big chunky jumpers - but no holes in tights and make up in all the right places now!
Dh refuses to do the cardigan though

UpsyOne · 01/12/2009 21:05

Stephanie Seymour because Axl Rose saw her photo in a magazine and went on to marry her.

deaddei · 01/12/2009 21:35

We didn't have style icons in the early 70s

gingertoo · 01/12/2009 21:43

Madonna during her slutty, 'needs a good wash' stage (Desperately Seeking Susan) was the look I aimed for - not easy to achieve when you are a size 14 and ginger

piratefucker · 01/12/2009 21:50

i preferred blokes styling!! Bit of Jim kerr, for the white baggy shirt, beret and leggings thing.

or before that, i was a Mod and loved Paul Weller's Style. have also been known to echo Jools Hollands velvet Jackets, and the odd mens pin stripe suit!!, all mixed in with wearing a Bob hairdo.

I'm still like it really!! Yet treating it with respect as a t 40 it isn't going to work quite as well.
