I need a new ski jacket - anyone bought anything fun with good tailoring lately?

Price - not too sure. Not £££ but not pennies either.

I have this one from North Face. Wore it for skiing beginning of Feb and it was fab - even on really overcast, bitter days. I also wear it when it's pouring with rain here too.

Have just been into Ellis Brigham this afternoon and bought these in white to go with.

Can I also steal this opportunity to say I have bought my first ever ski boots today? Am v excited as have always rented or borrowed from sis before. Am having them moulded too and they are super super comfy

I have a TNF 3 in one - can zip in fleece with sleeves or without. Also have a Killtec jacket - not hugely expensive, think C & A who sell the brand in Europe - well cut and not too much padding but warm. TK maxx sometimes have them.

DP bought me a new ski ensemble last weekend as a Christmas present. Killy new season with a 30% discount .

This but in plain black all matt fabric.

angelfire · 29/11/2009 18:41

try TK Maxx which has good stuff

RainRainGoAway · 29/11/2009 18:45

Oooh OOhhh OOOOOhhhh Bonsoir Anna - I love!!
I would love a bit of fake fur around the collar. Fabulous. Like all the colours as well.

Good luck with the boots Tulpe - you will still curse your feet at the end of the day! I could see buying those salopettes from ell Brig with the Killy Jacket. I really like them in the purple.

Good idea about TKMaxx - esp as need stuff for kids, they are quite good for that aren't they?

Yup, fake fur collar is very glam, as is the cut (goes in well at middle so you don't feel like a Michelin woman)!

RainRainGoAway · 29/11/2009 19:17

That is what I am looking for, the non-marshmallow look.
I have had a kids jacket for the past 5 years and the lack of waist is horrible!

Now to choose which colour....

TK Maxx now sell their ski wear online

Agree that non-marshallow look is very nice. I had been wearing an O-Neill jacket with a zip-in fleece layer for the previous 3 seasons which was rather voluminous. Plus my ski trousers were loose fit. Felt v chic when I tried on the North Face bootcut trousers today My ass didn't look wider than the M1 for a change!!

Bonsoir - the Killy range is lovely. I was v tempted by a v similar outfit in their range when I was looking in January. However, as my skiing ability is somewhat questionable I felt it better to be more "visible" to other skiers!!

Rain - am more concerned about my shins than my feet, tbh. I had always worn my sisters' nordica boots and never had any probs. Then last season I rented some boots and the tongue part of the insert bruised my shin bones terribly - not to mention the knotting in my calf muscles. It took over 2 hours to find the perfect boots in the store today. Let's just say my calfs are sturdy enough that I shan't ever get blown over in a stiff wind

Skimummy · 29/11/2009 21:09

I am a North Face girl as well - I have an older version of this. I get quite cold so the zip-in fleece is a nice addition! I agree that the boot cut trousers are surprisingly flattering!!

I suspect I will be looking at new boots this season. The place where I got them specially fitted said they would take a while to feel comfortable but a couple of years later...still no good. My DH got a pair fitted at Profeet and says they are the most comfortable ski boots he has ever worn - he has been skiing since he was 4 and has seriously mangled feet so that is saying something! The search for comfortable ski boots are like looking for the perfect pair of jeans I think...

Piffpaffpoff · 29/11/2009 21:33

Slight hijack, but tulpe, what boots did you get? I have terrible problems getting ones to fit round my calves...

And, for the record, I have a gloriously hideous nevica early 90's jacket in various shades of neon. Put it this way, my friends never lose me in a whiteout . I only go to Cairngorm or Glenshee for a couple of day trips a year so I can't really justify getting a new one sadly!

tulpe · 29/11/2009 22:16

Piffpaffpoff - these are the boots. I bought them in Ellis Brigham but for some reason they don't come up on their website . They were very comfy around the calf but also on the shin. I tried on several pairs by Head, Nordica and Salamon and they all either pinched on the calves or the edges of the inner "tongue" put too much pressure on my shins.

The heat moulded (sp? should that be molded? no...surely not) insoles are worth the investment according to everyone I know who has them. Skimummy - I remember you posting about your DHs boots on the Ski threads earlier this year. They should be ready by mid-week. DH and I are going to give them a trial run at the local indoor "snow dome" place on Saturday night.....we had booked a sitter to go for dinner but have decided to ski instead . At least if there are any probs then EB can rectify them before we go to France (skiing for christmas....can't wait!)

Piffpaffpoff · 30/11/2009 13:45

Thanks for that tulpe - I've never tried Atomic so I'll give them a go. My last pair were Rossignol and they were absolute murder - I think I managed a total of about 30 minutes in them.

Have a lovely Christmas, I'm not jealous oh no - not much..... Cairngorm apparently opened for business on Saturday so hopefully I'll get a day up there soon .

RainRainGoAway · 30/11/2009 13:46

Really like the North Face jacket as well.

Have a good time skiing people!
