I can't get that link to work, but generally I think padded coats are fantastic. There is nothing better than being wrapped up in your own central heating system on a freezing day.

BUT, I would try to get one that has a bit of shape so you don't look like the michelin man - Zara do nice ones, usually with a belt which gives you a waist.

Also, if your budget stretches to it, have a smart coat too, maybe in the sales. It's always good to have options!

Thanks all

Verity, it has a drawstring inside to bring in the waist. I have considered a wool one as well...

No wool coat will ever be as warm as a padded one.

If your dc are little and you spend a lot of time in parks and playgrounds, then padded is what you need

gorgeousgirl · 28/11/2009 21:51

Yes we do. I am mocked for buying him a snowsuit etc. and wrapping him up ('over protecting' him), but we are the ones playing in the deserted parks in all weathers for hours while others are indoors... and I don't care what puddles he jumps in as he is dressed for the weather! Thinking of myself now... but don't want to fall foul of other mums ideas of how to dress!

I really feel the cold, and hate the idea of my dc being cold, especially when they were little, they were always bundled up in lots of layers.

Padded coats a v popular with mums in our park, I wear mine with an extra pair of socks under my boots, a hat that comes over my ears, extra long gloves and a scarf. That way, I'm not rushing the dc out of the park after 5 minutes!

I have just bought this coat as I looked everywhere for a long slim black hooded coat and this was the only one I could find!. It is not michelin man at all IMO bomber jackets are much worse offenders for that - it is nice and fitted but v warm and cosy I love it - hope it doesn't disintegrate as I will be back to square one! BTW bought it with 30% off voucher that is about at the moment

gorgeousgirl · 28/11/2009 22:38

I saw the disintegration review thing. Whe I bought the toddler one they stressed that after washing it must be tumbled dried until totally dry - wonder if the other person hadn't done this.

I have got this coat -and I don't think it is michelin man like. It is warm and waterproof (wouldn't wear it to work mind!).

There is a gap 30% off going around again at the moment - well worth it I think.
