Shampoo and conditioner help please

I didn't know whether to post this in S&B or health but since this is the place I haunt most, I thought I'd try here first.

The psoriasis on my scalp is worse than ever at the moment (maybe due to work stress / does it get worse with stress?) and my normal polytar or T-gel aren't really helping it. Also I really need a lovely soothing conditioner too.

Any ideas please?

Nizoral maybe? DH has a scabby head - undiagnosed- but T gel usually helps his. His is definately stress related.

Thank you.

Any more? Or conditioner recs?

Olatium do an intensive treatment shampoo (about £10 though) which works well. I also use soothing head and shoulders and conditioner which seems to work for me.

Thank you. have tried the H&S and it was okay but not great. Will have a look at the other one.

I recommend Philip Kingsley's scalp tonic..

Works wonders...

Thanks - can you buy it in the chemist?

Do Aveeda do a shampoo?

CertainAge · 28/11/2009 21:56

If you have scalp sensitivity, then don't use a conditioner. You can't get both hair conditioning and sensitivity to your scalp. Don't believe any labels that say you can.

JaneiteMightBite · 28/11/2009 22:01

Agh - my hair is like candyfloss without a conditioner though.

Can somebody tell me more about Aveda?

Paul Mitchell products have always served me well and I have a very sensitive scalp and suffer from eczema, the tea tree one, baby don't cry and the awapuhi shampoo and conditioners have all been good.

Only condition the bottom half of your hair too!

CertainAge · 28/11/2009 22:31

If you really need conditioner, use a small amount and just on the ends of your hair. You really should condition your scalp.

toddlerama · 28/11/2009 22:34

Don't get conditioner on your scalp and make sure you are rinsing realllllllly thoroughly. I know it sounds obvious, but this has made all the diference to my psoriasis. Also, leaving it longer between washes by using dry shampoo has improved it massively. It's not completely gone yet, but I think it will. I'm down to washing hair about twice a week and freshening with Bastiste Dry Shampoo inbetween.

JaneiteMightBite · 28/11/2009 22:37

Thanks.

Do any of you think it could be exacerbated by stress?

Will take more care over rinsing.

Update - have just washed it with t-gel, rinsed extra-carefully and didn't condition. It does feel a bit less sore, though the ends of my hair are a bit dry.

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 29/11/2009 17:49

Agree with posters who say that extra careful rinsing is very important.

JaneiteMightBite · 30/11/2009 17:46

It's felt much better all day today, thanks - and actually the ends aren't THAT dry. If anybody CAN recommend a conditioner though, I would be, to quote the aliens, eternally grateful.

That philip kingsley stuff is great. QVC sell it.

JaneiteMightBite · 30/11/2009 17:52

Thank you. Don't 'do' QVC - just want to walk into a shop, hand over some pennies and walk out with something nice!

Aveda do a scalp benefits range, shampoo and conditioner, possibly also some kind of serum you can apply directly to scalp without making hair greasy. I found it v soothing for my psoriasis (and much kinder to hair than T-gel)! Also I think you can get small sizes to try before you get bigger bottles.

JaneiteMightBite · 30/11/2009 18:03

Thank you. Is it mega-pricey? Or pricey but well worth it?

OP posts:
sleepwhenidie · 30/11/2009 18:10

just checked the aveda website and it is £27.89 here for shampoo and conditioner standard size - so expensive but it does last a long time and worth it if it works....I would try and find an aveda salon near you and get hold of the mini sizes which are about £5 each, just in case you aren't impressed and feel like you wasted money on products that will sit on your shelf forever, irritating you!

JaneiteMightBite · 30/11/2009 19:17

Thank you. Might try a mini one but that's far too much to spend on shampoo!
