If you have- verdict?
Reviews range from brilliant to rubbish with criticism of flimsy creased fabric.

hi purplepeony I bought it in the moss floral and while I liked it enough to keep it at the time I agree having worn it a couple of times the material is horrible. A kind of very thin old fashioned nightie feel to it. I'm partially blaming myself though as I usually steer clear of dry clean only, hadn't noticed this was. I now find myself avoiding it when I open the wardrobe sadly. Hope this helps. Of course you could always order it to have a look - thats the great joy of Boden!

purplepeony · 28/11/2009 13:11

THanks so much- you have decided it for me. Might wait for sale and take a look then at it, but doesn't sound too great. Sorry you are disappointed- maybe try ebaying it?

I ordered one in purple and returned it. The colour was beautiful, but the style wasn't great on me. I'm an hourglass shape and it sort of billowed out at the front under the ruched bit, which made my middle look bigger whereas that is my best part
No particular comment on the material - mine didn't look particularly creased, although I noticed that even on some of the pictures the dress looks creased on the models
If you're after a purple dress in this shape, there's a much nicer one in Coast

Cinnamonthecat · 28/11/2009 15:25

You should def have a look at it -it's possible that they were going for an authentic vintage feel with the fabric. Hadn't thought of Ebay. There's a few things I could put up there! On the plus side I really like this dress www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Dresses/Below-Knee-Dresses/WH160/Womens-Vintage-Tea-Dress.html - got it in the brown/black and love it. Not a colour combo I'd normally think of but its worked for me...

I bought the moss one for a wedding loved it suited my slim hipped but thick tummies and generous of nork figure
however it had been made shoddily ( for the price) and a seam under thezip had ripped so it was returned
shame though as the right idea but poorly executed. I thought a sturdier fabric would not have been asflattering

tulpe · 28/11/2009 16:46

I have it in moss green with the purple flowers. I LOVE it . I have worn it many times. Yes, the fabric was a little creased when it arrived but creases dropped out when left on hanger for a day.

I do think it has an authentic vintage feel. I am a big fan of all things 30's to 50's and have spent many a happy hour trawling through vintage stores in Portabello and the like. I would have been very happy to come across this dress in those stores

I have tried many dresses from Boden and this is only the second one I have ever bought and kept!

Cinnamonthecat · 28/11/2009 17:12

could I ask how you wear it Tulpe? maybe I could learn to love it if I styled it better (something I'm hopeless at). I wore it with black opaques and black low heels. Would it be better with boots - do you wear a cardigan over it and if so what colour? I'd be grateful for any help

purplepeony · 28/11/2009 17:30

oh god, now I am really confused! Think I'll wait for the sale.

Cinnamon - imo, black opaques are too harsh against the fabric. I wear either:

Brown opaques and brown ballet flats or high heel Mary-Janes.

I have just bought a pair of bright opaques - the same shade as the flowers - to wear with the dress. Will either wear with black or brown heels - whichever looks best and possibly mid-calf biker boots - to give it more of a funky edge.

Would also look great with a pair of close fitting brown knee high boots (as opposed to the slouchier styles around).

Layer it over a long sleeved tee - a warm cream, brown, bright purple or even green.

Cardigans - bright magenta round neck (with satin covered buttons to work the whole 40's thing - got mine in M&S). Looks good with a skinny belt around the waistline of the cardi too. Have an oversized chocolate coloured waterfall/wrap cardi which I have worn loosely over the top and also cinched in with a large brown belt.

In term of accessories - keep it simple - the dress is the focus. Generally I leave them out but I have worn both a long string of pearls knotted at the chest and a pearl 3 strand bracelet. Not together though - that would be too much like "dressing up like granny" You want a nod to the era rather than am-dram queen

tulpe · 29/11/2009 10:16

oh and Tesco have a cashmere 3 button cardi which is the exact same shade of green as the moss dress which would look fab

here looks very pale and washed out on screen but it is in fact the same shade - I wore it to the store to check And now it is half price will definitely be buying it.

Cinnamonthecat · 29/11/2009 12:48

thanks Tulpe! I am now sitting here in the dress, waterfall cardigan (exact same shade as the brown in pattern), brown opaques and my favourite brown boots which just happen to be close fitting and knee high! I'd never have put them all together but it looks great. If I say so myself. I really want to like this dress and Purple as I already mentioned -do order it and let us know what you think. On the lookout for some layering tees - love that idea

purplepeony · 29/11/2009 13:34

I'm going to risk waiting for the sale in a couple of weeks- so far it is showing plenty of stock.

OP posts:
tulpe · 29/11/2009 18:26

Cinnamon - glad it worked for you

Purple - I shall be v if you get ££££'s off that dress! Although I seem to remember I did get 20% off and free delivery so not too bad!

kittya · 29/11/2009 18:34

I have the moss green and love it but it is cheaply made, the bloody zip is impossible to fasten. It looks great if you have a generous chest but not worth the money.

cornsilkwearscorsets · 29/11/2009 18:38

I tried it on and didn't like it. I also saw someone wearing it in RL and didn't like it on her either.

inveteratenamechanger · 29/11/2009 19:17

I got the moss green and didn't like it on me.

I thought the style was a bit staid as I wanted something I could wear with Fly boots and leather jacket.

I am quite flat chested, so perhaps that was the problem. From tulpe's description, I can imagine it looks gorgeous on somebody else!

tulpe · 29/11/2009 19:19

I am only 32C so not been overly blessed in the norkage department!

inveteratenamechanger · 29/11/2009 19:30

Still curvier than me, but actually I was thinking more of your wonderful description of how you style the dress - you sound so glamorous! I imagined you with lovely skin and caramel coloured hair.

tulpe · 29/11/2009 19:36

how bizarre! My skin is not bad actually and my hair is indeed caramel!

Not sure that I am glamorous though.....it takes some effort to not automatically reach for jeans and tees .
