11year old greasy hair

Can anyone please recommend a shampoo and conditioner of my JUST 11 year old daughter, her hair is just starting to become greasy and I find that the usual children's range of shampoos are just not right for her, but equally she's not older enough for an adult shampoo

She is old enough for adult shampoos and conditioners. Also old enough to learn to keep it out of her eyes.

tibni · 27/11/2009 13:10

My dd is the same age and uses standard adult shampoo. Her hair is long and curly but has started to get greasy at the roots so I still encourage her to condition the ends each time she washes it. She needs to wash her hair at least every other day now so she just does it in the shower in the morning.

dexter73 · 27/11/2009 13:12

My dd has been using adult shampoo since ahe was about 4!! Didn't realise there was an age limit on it.

cocolepew · 27/11/2009 13:26

I was recommended the green Herbal Essence shampoo, by Saltire, for DD who is 11 and has very greasy hair. It's really good.

deaddei · 27/11/2009 13:46

Make sure she really rinses it out well- otherwise that can make hair greasy.
I bought dd some aveda which is lovely, and has lasted ages.

VerityBrulee · 27/11/2009 13:53

I got my dd some lovely rose shampoo at the health food shop, less chemicals and it smells lovely.

borderslass · 27/11/2009 22:45

my daughter uses the icy pineapple herbal essences shampoo for oily/normal hair another tip recommended by the hairdresser is to use talc just a little bit on the brush and it does work.

chattermouse · 28/11/2009 14:35

Cocolepew and boarderlass lass are right re the icy pineapple herbal essences shampoo and con, Defo try it, i did on cocolepew's suggestion and it is really good. I wash twice with the shampo, then condition.

Also Baptiste dry shampoo (sort of like talc in a cannister you spray onto roots of hair then brush out) is excellent for pepping up slightly greasy hair on days you don't have time to wash. Boots sell it for £1.99. You can get normal green can, or they do a couple of new cannisters for brunnette and black hair. It is great value and really effective.

Get your dd the herbal essences stuff and a can of baptiste and the problem will be dealt with i promise!

chattermouse · 28/11/2009 14:37

I meant 'Batiste' not 'baptiste', sorry!

colditz · 28/11/2009 14:45

She's 11, not 1. My 3 and 6 year old use adult shampoo. get your daughter a decent shampoo and accept the young woman she is becoming.

chattermouse · 28/11/2009 15:07

Colditz - slightly harsh tone there? Op was only asking for advice, not a stern talking too!

colditz · 28/11/2009 15:14

I specialise in stern talking to. It is the only way to correct errant thinking. Fannying around doesn't cut it - yes I could have gone into a long winded diatribe about how she is now reaching puberty, and it's so sad how quickly they grow up, and how awful you cannot buy shampoo especially suitable for JUST 11 year old girls with blonde hair and blue eyes and clark's shoes, but here is a fabby organic alternative etc etc etc

But realistically, the kids shampoo isn't cutting the mustard, she needs adult shampoo. ANY adult shampoo will be fine. The problem is not with the choice of adult shampoo, it is with the fact that a children's shampoo isn't appropriate.

chattermouse · 28/11/2009 15:19

Jeepers! Sounds like you are in need of a mince pie and some mulled wine, Colditz .

colditz · 28/11/2009 15:23

thank you.And stiff vodka.

Apologies to OP for grumpy twattish tone.

chattermouse · 28/11/2009 15:27

Will join you with a virtual gin and tonic. Heavy on the gin and lime and easy on the ice and tonic

Elfytigga · 28/11/2009 15:28

Aussie works really well - have had greasy hair all my life and have found that if you use a really gentle shampoo e.g. dry hair you can get away with washing it ever day.

And yes, I know you aren't supposed to, but ti's better than looking like you slicked your hair back all day.

nearly forgot that this stuff really works well also.

Thanks for all the advice, have tried the herbal essence Icy Pineapple and it has really made a difference. Colditz - apologies accepted :}

My dd had greasy hair since age 9 - we have been through gallons of I love Juicy from Lush, as its sooo good (she is now nearly 15!)

www.lush.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id= 54&categoryid=486&option=comvirtuemart&Itemid=80

As it was the only thing that worked, sometimes we use Paul Mitchell number 2 shampoo, both are all natural ingredients - I found the Lush one left her hair in perfect condition though - super shiny and no need for conditioner,

Lovesdogsandcats · 01/12/2009 19:01

Right, ignore cheapo shop, and the fact tis not brand name - The Ginger shampoo and conditioner from Aldi is seriously amazing. And cheap.

Leaves adults and kids hair shiny, lovely and soft, with added bonus of the gorgeous smell staying in your hair all next day. I will die if they stop making this stuff
