no you aren't but having weighed it up and being completely honest everyone looks a little better with a little slap

just like you but with slightly more even skin tone or better eyebrows or dark eyelashes it doesn't have to be the full Susan Boyle

southeastastra · 26/11/2009 21:02

loads of women don't wear make up. i work with alot of women and sometimes wonder if i'm odd as i do wear it

traceybath · 26/11/2009 21:51

I'm always slightly alarmed by friends who don't generally wear make up and then wear a full face when we go out.

As Ronaldinho says most people look better with a little make up on.

I'm like Souteastastra - always wear it.

Ronaldinhio · 26/11/2009 22:18

I am not really stupid or unobservant but there is a woman who works for another division of my firm

no make up in the day slightly crinkled coloured (over grey) hair
in the evening she looks like a completely different person as she puts on her make up and does her hair

I am always confused by her appearance and although I have met her 10+ times always think she is someone else if I meet her in the evening to the point where I have asked who she is....wtf?

for some people, like her, it truly is transforming and SHE SHOULD WEAR IT ALL THE TIME so that I am not confused

thisisyesterday · 26/11/2009 22:20

i am the same OP.
quite frankly i just can't be bothered to put make up on every day and take it off every night! i have more important things to do, such as getting 3 kids out of the house for the school run lol
and um, drinking coffee

heartofgold · 27/11/2009 08:45

i'm a sahm (typed sham, which is probably also true) and very rarely wear makeup during the day. i always used to wear 5 mins worth to work - usually just concealer, touch of eyeshadow and mascara, and 10 mins worth when i go out (never "full face", no foundation/blush and only rarely lipstick) but i certainly don't look dramatically different.

since reorganising my makeup so i can actually get to it i have been wearing a little in the day sometimes because of the novelty and, yes, i do look better with my dark circles covered and a touch of eyeliner/shadow.

i've found when i have nice new clothes to wear i'm more likely to wear a bit of makeup to kind of finish the look off. usually those clothes are restricted to going out, but recently i lost a fair bit of weight so had to replace all my day-to-day stuff, hence the renewed interest in slap.

deliciousdevilwoman · 27/11/2009 20:12

I wear a little every day and the full works for a night out. Each to their own, but if truth be known, I don't understand women that choose to go bare faced all the time. Most do look better with a little slap

heartofgold · 27/11/2009 20:22

slightly better, probably, but probably not enough to be bothered about for many people, particularly if you're not trying to project a smart image for work.

personally i find bare faced more attractive than obviously made up, certainly during the day.

SixtyFootDoll · 27/11/2009 20:27

I wear light make up in the day = every day
have never knowinglt been seen sans mascara
then I vamp it up for nights out.
I dont have great skin, so like to cover it/

spongebrainbigpants · 27/11/2009 20:31

I wear no make up ever. Don't own any and wouldn't have a clue how to put it on .

Am I the only woman who never wears it?!

Just cannot be bothered and never have - luckily I have two sons so don't need to worry about not being able to pass on make up skills to my kids .

mrstimlovejoy · 27/11/2009 21:28

i never wear make up but i think i would like to start wearing some but tbh wouldn't know what colours to go for or how to apply it without looking like a clown

heartofgold · 27/11/2009 21:36

what's your colouring mrs tim?

there are loads of tutorials on youtube, run a search and find some previously recommended ones.

i find lippy is the thing that most changes how i look, which is why i generally avoid it. soft greys/browns on the eyes, a spot of mascara, clear mascara for brows (along with judicious plucking) and a touch of concealer won't make a dramatic difference, just a slight airbrushing

for eyes i use a neutral colour on the lids, then something darker along the lash line from midway to the corners (top and bottom) - cheapy colour palettes are good for getting a few shades that work together.

mrstimlovejoy · 27/11/2009 21:49

dark hair,medium skin tone
at the moment really dark bags under my eyes
my dh gave me a voucher for a pampering session at local beauty salon so i'm going to have eyebrows waxed [seriously overdue]and have a facial, manicure and pedicure.
then going to have my hair coloured and cut short [shoulder length now]but i hate it,i have thick hair that just grows out of control.
will look on you tube thanks

NorkilyChallenged · 28/11/2009 09:17

No Spongebrain, you are not alone.

I never wear make up and don't own any.

Wouldn't know where to start. Am 36 (possibly starting to need it but still can't be bothered). I sometimes go to work without even finding time to comb my hair or look in the mirror so no idea how I would even manage make up if I wanted to)

PacificDogwood · 28/11/2009 09:25

No, Spongebrain, you are most certainly not alone.

I last wore foundation at our wedding 12 years ago - I hate its texture, smell and look, even on other people.

I will wear tinted moisturizer, eyeliner, mascara for a night out. And I do think I look better, but not better enough to bother with it every day.
Quite very possibly I should... getting on a bit... fed up with being asked whether I am anaemic .

It is very odd when people go from bare to full face and are entirely unrecognisable, though.

spongebrainbigpants · 28/11/2009 18:40

Oh good .

Make up is such a mystery to me - waste of time and money IMO. But then I do have fantastic skin and am naturally stunning so don't need the assistance of slap !

Norkily, I'm 37 so could probably also do with some help, but far too old to care now .

Miggsie · 28/11/2009 18:52

I only wear it when appearing in a play...!

Once at work (I work in IT so quite a lot of men) someone asked me why I didn't wear make up. And I said "does my bare skin offend you?" and he was a bit non plussed, but I thought it was such an intrusive question for a work meeting. What if I'd said "can't you buy nicer clothes?" or something.

I can't work out how to pur it on, it costs a fortune and then you have to spend ages taking it off again. Seems a great waste of time and energy to me.

Saw a girl in town today with so much make up on it was a wonder her face didn't implode under the weight of it, I guess she was about 15.

I couldn't spend that much time on my face, I'm not too ugly so I don't bother with it.

UpsyOne · 28/11/2009 20:44

I wear a little every day as it takes 5min to pop on a little foundation, powder, mascara and eight hour cream.

I look prettier when I'm wearing makeup which in turn makes me feel better about myself. A little superficial I know, but deep down I think we all want to be pretty.

DanDruff · 28/11/2009 21:17

how odd bogie
do you look in drag when you go otu then?

spiralqueen · 29/11/2009 19:18

Guess I get around to putting some slap on about 4 or 5 times a year but it's getting less frequent. (I've bought the grand total of 5 tubes of foundation in 30 years)

I've always had reasonable skin (no spots as a teenager) and I think a lot of that is down to the fact that I haven't smothered it in slap.

If you need to wear makeup to give you confidence in yourself/feel pretty that's obviously fine but otherwise I can't see the point.
