I did start another thread awhile ago but can't find it so here we go.

Adding before pics to profile now.

DH is already panicking and offering me money to go to hairdressers.

JB - have admired your after pic (and your poseable Bender - how often does a person get to write that phrase? )

Right have examined your pics, will have to look at the video. I really want to take LENGTH off it though as it's too long. I'm worried your "snipping" thing (from the pic) won't take enough length off.

JackBauer · 24/11/2009 21:19

Good one Hope and Fairy!
It doesn;t get rid of a lot of the length TBH, you would be better cutting it 'normally' so it is a few inches longer than you want and then the MN haircut (patent pending)
Mine has about an inch off the longest length which is just enough to egt rid of the scraggly bits.

I am trying to find the old threads to link but my search isn't working!

I Likey, Jack.

Layers are great.Softer and feminine.

Were those your sewing scissors?

JackBauer · 24/11/2009 21:22

Yes Knotty, bad Jack. They are my super sharp fabric scissors! Thanks though!

Norkily, my vocab is so much better (stick scissors in and snip, get me)

Must be something in the air I did mine this afternoon.

DH very impressed (cheepskate smiley needed!)

JackBauer · 24/11/2009 21:43

Something in the air, definately

Yeah, see, my hair looks nothing like the before bit on that video so I doubt I would resemble the after bit either...

cheesefarmer · 24/11/2009 21:52

oh thinking of doing this just now!!

question - on the vid it looked like they did cut it across first? to get rid of some length? I'd like a couple of inches off so do you think this would work?

My mum used to be a hairdresser so if I make a balls up of it she could fix when I see her on friday...

FairyLightsForever · 24/11/2009 21:54

Norkily... I chop a chunk off mine and then do the cutting into it. As JB said earlier, you can do two pony-tails, one at the front and then another one further back to shorten the length.

If your hair is very curly then go carefully cutting the front one, I had to keep straightening mine when I first did it because the layers were too short and looked a bit poodle-esque!

JackBauer · 24/11/2009 21:54

Lucky you, no-one wants to look like me...

My hair is so poker straight it's veyr boring. There used to be a kink but it's gone. I am no longer kinky

I think there were a few MNer's on the other threads with curly hair who cut it like this and said it worked.

Here's my old thread, some curly girls on there. (Finally found it)

OP posts:
JackBauer · 24/11/2009 21:55

I meant don;t cut it across if your hair is my length as you run a severe mullet risk....longer than that wouldn;t be an issue I wouldn;t have though!

OP posts:
NorkilyChallenged · 24/11/2009 22:03

Kinky is overrated JB

Hm, not sure what to do now then. THink my hair is about the same length as yours. It's not uber-curly so won't spring up too much.

I have cut it myself in the past, but only whilst in the grip of a slightly unhinged frenzy of postnatal hormones and just hacked across in a scary fashion.

JaneiteMightBite · 24/11/2009 22:13

I don't get how you cut into it though. Please can somebody explain for dimwits like moi?

JaneiteMightBite · 24/11/2009 22:13

JB - yours looks brill.

NorkilyChallenged · 24/11/2009 22:17

Janeite - did you watch the video? That explains it really, i think.

JackBauer · 24/11/2009 22:19

On my profile one of the pics shows me upside down with the scissors pointing at my head. That is cutting in, you cut into the length of your hair so you are only cutting little bits off. Sounds weird but it does work, honest.

Thanks BTW

I watched a video a while back - one with a dozy looking teenage boy hanging around. I watched it with the sound off though and I couldn't really tell how they were cutting in to the pony tail.

JackBauer · 24/11/2009 22:21

I've linked to the video up ^ there somewhere, or down there, depends what setting you have MN on

OP posts:
cheesefarmer · 24/11/2009 22:27

i got a bit scissor happy. will need my mum to sort it out. it was quite nice to begin with, then I took a heap off the length and it's not a good look.

JaneiteMightBite · 24/11/2009 22:31

Watched it again (gosh that boy is strange) but still don't get the cutting in thing. Will go to bed and think again tomorrow!

JackBauer · 25/11/2009 08:31

Oh dear cheese, how bad is it?

Janeite, it doesn;t look as if you are going to cut anything off at all but little bits do get cut off. Having watched video bakc you can't actually see but she has the scissors pointing at the girls head and then cuts.
I can't exolain it any different as I've been up since half 6!

JaneiteMightBite · 25/11/2009 20:19

Thank you. Will maybe have a go at the weekend. Need to talk dp into dying it for me again too; am looking distinctly grey and haggard. Looked in the mirror today and thought it was my mum.

JackBauer · 25/11/2009 20:37

Anyone else need a trim?
