The White Company - returning stuff

Has anyone else had to return a faulty item.

Bought a towel set and washbag for dd in summer sale, cost £24 for one towel, one flannel and washbag, gave it her for birthday last month to use for swimming and after five lessons the washbag piping has all come apart.

Rang them to complain and just wasted half an hour of my life. Tried to explain I need replacement or repair as DD very attached to it and a tad obsessive over things matching and they were shite.

I've bought a fair bit from them over the years and never returned anything but this totally puts me off buying from them.

Boden would have refunded me on the spot or offered to send replacements, makes you realise how good their returns policy is.

Has anyone had any experiences of the white co returns for faulty stuff before? I got the impression they were being deliberately obstructive so I'd just give up and accept I'm stuck with the overpriced crap.

I have a store near me and they're very helpful.

What outcome did you want? A refund or a new set?

I wanted an exchange of both items (matching towel not faulty) for a new matching set or a new identical washbag (none left now) or a repair.

I don't really want a refund as DD adores it, plus they would only refund the faulty piece so I would be left with the towel (dd is ocd about matching stuff and I tend to indulge)

Would have been happiest with repair but they won't which is piss poor considering cost of it!

I think the White Company are incredibly obstructive when it comes to giving your money back. They're very good at taking it though.

We're going through major hassle with some White Company furniture (posted elsewhere, so won't bore you here). I'd never buy from them again.

Feel so irritated with them... calming glass of wine called for.

Its probably not that easy for them to repair it the way things are manufactured these days and if they have none left they can't really exchange. They should offer to refund after receiving it as a return. Its not really your fault your DD is picky about things.

If they dont offer to refund a faulty item, ring consumer direct and they will advise the best way to proceed as they have obligations under the Sale of Goods Act 1978 and Distance Selling Regulations 2000.
