SPOTS: Face & Body

I have started to get spots on my face: problem areas are chin, temple area, and have pimples along my hair line. On my body I get them across my shoulders, on my back, where my bra straps lay on my shoulders and thighs.

They're big red lonely spots, not like a rash of spots.... Anyway, what can I do to shift them?!

Any miracle cures/potions/creams/vitamins/body washes?

I'd go to your doc and get topical antibiotic such as Dalacin T. Has always been v. helpful on inflamed spots for me and far fewer negs than oral antibiotics etc. Most creams etc you can buy are a bit useless and tend to dry your skin out. Things containing Salycilic acid (dunno how to spell it) can help but topical antibiotics treat more inflamed spots much better.

I have exactly the same problem! I went to my GP, and he prescribed a gel-cream called Duac. It's an antibiotic, and seems to be working already (I've only been using it a week!). It's not a miracle cure by any means, and I have had a corker of a big, red, sore spot come up on my chin, but on the whole, my skin has seen a bit of improvement! I'd much rather persevere with this than oral antibiotics - less side effects!

Yes, definitely go to see your GP. There are lots of different things they can give you - if one doesn't work, there are others.

All the different potions, etc you can buy over the counter are really a waste of money - they don't work.

Am with the others on visiting your GP but also maybe take a look at your lifestyle - not claiming mine is perfect btw!! but maybe cut down on processed food and alcohol for a while - I know it's almost Christmas!

Also consider stress in your life - has it increased - another biggie is hormonal surges - pregnancy breast feeding etc

It's hard to have spots as an adult - believe me I know - have managed to clear up after some struggles

good luck!

How is your diet? I am on a low carb diet, which has eliminated all caffine and sugar, but I eat loads of good fats and protein, and drink loads of water, and my skin has never looked better. I used to get spots like these too but my skin honestly now looks like a babys Only took about a week to notice the difference too. I was prescribed duac a while ago but didn't liek how much it dried out my skin. I agree that stress can have a negative effect too. I'd start from the inside, then if nothing works look for a cream.

I've just had a baby, have an 11 month old and a toddler - very unexpected pregnancy, moving house... very, very stressed. Diet is hideously bad, I don't put weight on easily so I do eat an awful lot of utter rubbish and haven't had much fresh air on skin with it being so cold.

Will mention to the gp about the gel, see if she'll give me some.

It's not what I'd typically call acne because they're big red spots that appear on their own then go after a week or so but then another one comes and like I say, my face seems to be suffering at the minute.

Vichy Normaderm. Not too pricey but wonderful stuff.
