Now I think it is too naff for words on preschool children, it makes them look far too grown up. However what age do you think it is ok for older boys to wear them?

I dunno, but DS who is 8 1/2 is desperate to get a suit. I don't know when he would wear it - this is a boy who only ever wears football kits or trackys

geordieminx · 23/11/2009 15:12

My ds is 2.5 - he didnt look naff... he looked adorable - pic on profile

((((squares up to Nappy)))

Tizzyjacko · 23/11/2009 19:13

First time age 16 at the school prom. DS looked gorgeous! Before that clean jeans and a polo shirt were the best I could manage, anything else was too like school clothes

TennisFan · 23/11/2009 19:24

I hate that look on boys too. My DS wore cool off-white linen trousers and shirt at a wedding & separate christening last summer and looked great (age 9).
He wants a 'Tuxedo' his words - but no-where to wear it to.

TrillianAstra · 23/11/2009 19:28

Cute for a wedding, overkill for anything else.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 23/11/2009 19:31

I sent my DS to his CM in an outfit last week that I had bought for him to wear to my cousins wedding, M&S outfit, cream linen mix trousers, white shirt and a matching waistcoat. CM asked what the occasion was, she thought it was hilarious when I said the occasion was that he had nothing else to wear because everything was dirty because I hadnt been arsed to do washing.
Im glad I did though because its a nice little oufit, he looks cute in it and im getting my moneys worth!

geordieminx · 23/11/2009 19:46

Oi... All of you - look at my ds and tell me how gorgeous he looked!!!

((((((stares around the thread))))

nappyaddict · 23/11/2009 22:55

Tizzy lol you must have posh schools by you if they wear waistcoats!

reallywoundup · 23/11/2009 23:01

weddings etc yes- very cute, ds's aged nearly 5 and 6.5 will be wearing suits (all matching as well so double naff points ) to a wedding next weekend- twas cheaper to buy suits at £16.99 (all in inc 3pc suit, shirt and tie) than to traipse around next etc trying to find something which didn't have skulls, monkies or blardy tractors on it

Tizzyjacko · 24/11/2009 16:54

Ha ha Nappy addict , no waistcoat honest, just the M&S DJ, though some of the boys wore pink waistcoats and ties and arrived on spray painted pink bikes that the local rozzers gave them (in honour of one of the girls Mum's who died of breast cancer)and they looked fabulous....... and not a posh school, rural comp. Incidentally check out some of the american prom night horrors on youtube and similar

MrsBadger · 24/11/2009 17:13

I would say 13 upwards at their bar mitzvah / confirmation / prom or similar rite of passage

nappyaddict · 25/11/2009 12:54

What about first communion?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 25/11/2009 12:55

they are much younger for that though aren't they? like 9 ish?
I suppose if they have to they have to but I wouldn't make that the start of an extensive suit-wearign career, iyswim

nappyaddict · 25/11/2009 12:58

Yes they are much younger. I was just wondering as you had mentioned confirmation.

What do people think about boys wearing this new fashion of wearing a shirt, tie and waistcoat with jeans in an every day sense as opposed to a special occasion?

Oblomov · 25/11/2009 13:29

Ds-5.5, bought one for my nieces wedding and ds2's christening. he begged. Thought he looked fab. My nephew , same age, had one too. They looked like the krays ! Everyone loved it and said how smart they were.

MrsBadger · 25/11/2009 13:42

nappy I am fine with that if the boy in question has chosen it and is Working A Look

I just get the shudders at little boys at weddings etc in polyester suits with slicked down hair
[mass generalisation ahoy]
ime they look either vastly uncomfortable or unpleasantly smarmy and smug - in both cases their dads usually look one or the other too.

Mistymoo · 25/11/2009 13:46

Little boys in kilts - I love that

((((just adding another thing to debate))))))

deaddei · 25/11/2009 13:48

Tennis fan- for some strange reason my ds 10 wants a tuxedo! (he'll be disappointed come the 25th)
He does wear skinny jeans, shirt and black waistcoat- with converses or dcs. Looks quite cool and makes a hange from the 5 years he has spent in football kit.

AvrilH · 25/11/2009 13:48

geordieminx - your DS does indeed look gorgeous, but that is more like a pageboy outfit

than the naff look black waistcoat, black schooltie black trousers that make toddlers look like they are in fancy dress

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 25/11/2009 13:58

Geordieminx ~ gorgeous!

My Ds wore a waistcoat, winged collar, cravat and pinstriped trousers to his Baptism...he was 4 ~ looked fab!

He wore a cream suit(trousers taken up), waistcoat and tie for his First Communion aged 7 and again looked great. He wore the suit again(trousers let down) for Dd's Baptism just before he turned 9. I still think I didn't get my money's worth out of it. It's a huge expense though if they can't wear it a dozen times at least.

southeastastra · 25/11/2009 14:05

ds(8) lives in his suit, thought it's really as he's dressing up as dr who

wouldn't bother him to wear it out to the shops.

Tizzyjacko · 26/11/2009 19:06

My ds wore a toy bowler hat every day from 18 months til 3 and half. He looked like Oddjob but I got so used to it that I could never work out why people were laughing at him.....
