Would a Missoni scarf be a good (ahem) "investment"?

What d'you reckon? Will they be really dated in a few years? They are so lovely....

Nah, go for it. I love missoni

Bonsoir · 23/11/2009 14:39

Oh Missoni is lovely - I bought a gorgeous Missoni shawl in a sale when I was in Italy on holiday in July; it's not an investment, but it does have longevity value.

traceybath · 23/11/2009 14:39

I don't really do investment pieces - but tend to justify things more on a cost per wear basis.

So buy it and wear it to death.

dexter73 · 23/11/2009 14:39

It looks like something from M&S or Accessorize!! It is nice but doesn't seem to particularly grab me.

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 23/11/2009 14:40

Thanks Lostinlalaland.
I've never spent that much money on an item of clothing other than a winter coat, but something tells me I would feel fab whenever I wore this.

The problem with the picture on that link is that it can't be showing the actual scarf as the scarf is supposed to be 200cm long and 40 cms wide and the way its draped over the model shows a much shorter scarf.

It would really annoy me if they sent the thin, short one as shown on the model.

The scarf is lovely

dexter73 · 23/11/2009 14:46

Is it so much different from this?

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 23/11/2009 14:50

Well the M&S one doesn't have a label on it that says 'Missoni'

Actually I do think the colours are better on Missoni ones.

(Am encouraged by Bonsoir liking them.... )

Great investment - go for it! It is the sort of piece that you'll wear for a couple of years then put it away for a couple of years, then wear for a couple of years - you get the picture.

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 23/11/2009 15:00

Thank you everyone

Is the first one nicer than this one?

OP posts:
BelleDameSansMerci · 23/11/2009 15:02

Why do you do the justify to yourself completely reasonable "how much per wear" thing? So, if the scarf is £117 and you wear it 117 times that's only a £1 a wear - bargain!

If you like it and you can afford it, why not?

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 23/11/2009 15:05

Protestant guilt?
What would dh say?
What if I don't like it after all?

OP posts:
BelleDameSansMerci · 23/11/2009 15:07

Protestant guilt? Yikes - a whole new guilt package I didn't even know I supposed to have?

Can't answer the DH question as don't exactly come clean about cost of things when questions and we don't even live together never mind him being a DH. Not sure he really believes the Prada shoes were in the sale - ho hum.

If you don't like it is more the thing - can you check out the returns policy or, better, see it before you buy it?

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 23/11/2009 15:46

Good thinking. Returns policy is fine.
DH would just be confused. I would ask him to get it for me only I could imagine him buying me a cheaper scarf from somewhere else and thinking he had done something very clever in saving the money and being bemused at why I wasn't pleased

I have a beautiful Missoni scarf, I love it and it goes with everything! There are some lovely ones on US ebay at great prices.

DanDruff · 23/11/2009 16:15

if the scarf in the OP was in per una no one would blink an eye

DanDruff · 23/11/2009 16:16

marthastewart · 23/11/2009 16:22

Good Luck

per una tastic

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 24/11/2009 11:57

Can I pick your brains a bit more please?
Which one of these would you get if you were me? It would have to be one of the bluey ones rather than the green or yellowy ones, though a bit of red in with blues is ok.

I have one of those scarves which I bought about 5 years ago. They are long, warm and beautiful quality and I think it shows. I would not hesitate to buy!
The M & S one is not wool, you can't compare the 2. I think you really have to see it to appreciate how long, gorgeous and warm it is. I love the red one.

noddyholder · 24/11/2009 13:11

There are a lot of fake ones doing the rounds in brighton chavtastic! They are very per una and a bit footballers wives.Property and gold are investments not scarves!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 24/11/2009 18:10

I love those Missoni scarves. The only thing that would put me off (apart from the price) is that they're too recognisably Missoni. Like something being too Boden etc.

dexter73 · 24/11/2009 19:25

101 handbags - the Missoni ones are only an acrylic/wool mix. This one is only 27% wool whereas the Per Una one I linked to has 36% wool!
