What are you buying dp for Christmas?

monkeysmama · 23/11/2009 08:53

I'm putting this on S&B instead of Christmas as I have a very stylish dp.

Dp is impossible to buy for. He is the kind of man who buys the things he wants, has all the ipod, wii, wallet, key holder, leather gloves etc stuff and only wears luxury clothing.

I've sorted his gifts from dd - a beautiful canvas she's painted for him, a lovely photo of us 2 in the forest and a calendar.

I've just ordered this to stop him cleaning his shoes in the sink and some new pjs but can't think of anything else.

What's your lucky dp getting?

Noone?

Lucky is not the word - I'm thinking slug traps. You have no idea how chuffed he'll be.

dexter73 · 24/11/2009 08:35

I'm getting my dh Call of Duty.

teafortwo · 24/11/2009 09:02

My DH has started to research into flying lessons!

When he told me about it I did this - -And snapped "...bit self indulgent, non?"

The more I think about it the more I think it is a good idea. He does have a passion for planes, has enjoyed flying in his friend's plane and has had a grey year this year which learning to fly might help him come to terms with. So... flying lessons sounds OK when I later stopped to think about it.

For Christmas... I will agree to this crazy well thought out plan!

carciofi · 24/11/2009 11:25

I find my DH difficult to buy for. He has all the gadgets and has no interest in clothes. I've bought him tickets to Billy Connolly and Mark Knopfler, will also get him a few CDS, books and frame a photo of himself and DD.

I bought him Bose headphones last year and they were a big hit but your DP probably already has those, Monkeysmama?

scrimble · 24/11/2009 12:27

My DP wants to do a parachute jump.

I have my suspicions that this would be a very £££ pressie...

Not sure what else to get him tho' so will watch this thread with interest.

FiveGoMadonTheDanceFloor · 24/11/2009 12:29

A weather station.

monkeysmama · 24/11/2009 14:16

Yes he has those carciofi. I've half though about one of the electronic book things for him to read on the tube to work but he's stopped reading since dd was born so could be a bit redundant.

Flying lessons sounds good! Not for my dp though-his mum arranged them for him 3 years ago & he didn't go.

I think maybe I need to move this to Christmas.

I am still totally lost and thought maybe, as it is now December, I will get some suggestions?

Mine plays bass and I found a cool Ted Baker shirt in a (subtle!) guitar fabric which I know he will love for parties. I bought him a great leather messenger bag from John Lewis last year which he truly adores.

Liberty normally have some very beautiful stylish men's shirts online or how about something from Paul Smith?

PCPlumIsMyHomeboy · 03/12/2009 20:31

For a luxurious man about town, I'd go to either Mulberry, for a swank new man-bag/messender/whatever, or Smythson for some gorgeous personalised stationery, or maybe a leather travel wallet.

Lessons sound good, though. Is he at all foodie? A fish prep course, or bread making lessons might be good-then could also buy set of knives/bread maker etc to go with.

What is he 'into'? Cars? Music? A sport?

Maybe tickets to something? Or a membership?

Hmmm, am thinking on it...

LetThemEatCake · 03/12/2009 20:53

this is as far as I've got for my dh

that and cashmere

he honestly couldn't give a toss

geordieminx · 03/12/2009 21:06

Dh stated that he did not want clothes this year. He wanted techy stuff, gadgets, gismos etc.

So - ipod, subscription to photoshop magazine, Gears of war game, Smallville box set and footballer autobiography.

No socks/pants/slippers/anything.

On a similar note I have told him that I do not want anything technical/requiring a power supply or that has buttons of the plastic variety. End of.

monkeysmama · 03/12/2009 21:07

He likes cars (he has a Porsche) but has done all the driving stuff and through work gets the most amazing days out.

He really likes the Knomo range and I bought him a lovely work bag and travel wallet last year (good suggestions!)

Tickets to something sound good and maybe a magazine subscription but most of them seem like sexist crap to me!?

Thanks for the ideas so far....

Money permitting, I'd say tickets to Monaco GP.

If you're not thinking that big, a subscription to The Week, then? Good, newsy round up, perfect size/weight for taking on the tube in place of a paper/

Or:

lovely brand, lovely pens

BaronessBarbaraKingstanding · 03/12/2009 21:52

A Dustbuster.

maybe not what your dh would like though?

monkeysmama · 04/12/2009 13:13

Posted the same question on the Christmas thread and had some good suggestions including this which looks interesting. Does anyone London based know of a reputable massage place for men (unlike the two down the road from us!)

OP posts:
Chandon · 04/12/2009 13:44

an offical England heavy duty adult size football table (second hand through e-bay).

dinkystinky · 04/12/2009 13:47

How about a male spa treatment - my DH loved his vouchers for the Refinery (in Brook St central London) I got him last year..

ninedragons · 04/12/2009 13:48

Urgh. At the moment, a Stig keyring and half a sofa. All the women in my office are in the same boat with impossible-to-buy-for DHs and even pooling ideas, the Stig keyring is as far as we've got.

Mothers of sons, start them off with a collection of some sort. Your future DILs will adore you for sorting out a lifetime of gift occasions.

mamasmissionimpossible · 04/12/2009 13:54

mine is into digital photography in a big way and everything he wants seems to cost hundreds of pounds

Trikken · 04/12/2009 14:11

Assassins creed 2 special edition white. its what he's asked for.

PCPlumIsMyHomeboy · 04/12/2009 14:15

Bliss do the most amazing massages, and it's not too girly there (or dodgy!)

A large scale model Tiger tank (at his request!) Did anyone read the recent tank thread?!
