Where do you buy your jumpers from?

I don't think I have ever owned a jumper that looked good, was a decent quality, washed well, didn't lose its shape after half a day of wearing it, was long enough (I have a long upper body), wasn't scratchy, didn't lose fluff everywhere, didn't end up covered in little wool balls. Do they actually exist? The closest I've come to the perfect jumper was a cotton one from Benetton but the elastic around the sleeves and bottom wears out too quickly. MIL swears by John Smedleys but they are rubbish IMO as they are too thin and need ironing, and also they always seem too short for me. So where do YOU buy your jumpers?

Anyone? Or is it really hopeless?

Snap

I've not tried this out yet, but am thinking of buying really cheap jumpers, wearing them a few times and then binning when they don't survive the wash.

Expensive, but I've wasted more money, buying quality

Not really green though is it... effectively it's what I end up doing anyway

We get jumpers from the Edinburgh Woolen Mill but you might find their stuff old fashioned.

Are you talking about 'keep you really warm' jumper or more fashionable things?

I really love Plumo's Maxi Jumper dress but it is a ridiculous £400. (can't link to it)

Feierabend · 22/11/2009 16:49

No, not really warm jumpers, just something to layer over a top or t-shirt. The office I work in is ridiculously warm so I usually go for cotton anyway.

The last jumper I bought was from Hobbs but is stupidly hand wash only and would be too short for you - it is nice though.

The last cardigan I bought was from Linea at House of Fraser - it's long but hasn't held its shape desperately well. No bobbles as yet though.

cookielove · 22/11/2009 16:53

i buy hoodies and such style jumpers from fat face, although they do thinner styles, i have never had them loose shape e.t.c

like this

mmmmm i'd buy any of these

shonaspurtle · 22/11/2009 16:56

I've got a few John Lewis cashmere jumpers (I get them from my mum for Christmas but they're not too expensive for cashmere especially if you watch out for them in the sales).

They do get bobbles but I use one of those clothes shaver things which sorts it. Otherwise I put them in the washing machine on a wool cycle and they're fine. Reshape while damp etc. One of mine is 3 years old now and still looks & feels great.

Woolovers
Good prices
Lovely fabrics
Wash well
Not trendy, but nice classics
Some frumpy stuff, some nice stuff
Website a bit naff, but worth looking though with imagination
I have several from them

dexter73 · 22/11/2009 22:06

Gap jumpers are lovely and wash well. I love their merino ones, Also have some lambswool jumpers that are lovely and thick.

Well I have had a look at the Woolovers website and I love it. Does that mean I am frumpy? Thanks for the tip. GAP, of course, my favourite shop, I have one GAP jumper and love it. Must get more. Thanks ladies.

Not frumpy - well I guess it depends what you like on the Woolovers site. Have you ordered a sleeveless Guernsey jumper in olive green?

Alice

Feierabend · 25/11/2009 14:40

No, should I? Have gone for boring navy v neck (for those days when I really can't be bothered), and a couple of chunky styles for winter walks. Tempted to go back for more though, I like the short sleeved one to go over shirts and t shirts!

I see what you mean

D'Oh I have accidentally un-anonymysed myself. Serves me right for sending work emails whilst MNing at work!

I discovered Woolovers becuase my mum bought a Guernsey from them. I have a couple of the the cashmere/merino mix cardies, a cahsmere/merino scoop neck jumper and a more old-many zip up cardy to wear with jeans on Mummy days.

Feierabend · 25/11/2009 19:40

I might just buy every style they sell... Assessed my wardrobe situation earlier and it's grim, especially in the jumper department! The only problem I have with Woolover are their colours, not exactly ones that suit me.
