yes - I used independant consultant. worth every penny - much easier to shop with confidence.

search the archives - lots of threads which say the same

can recommend consultant if in s yorks

I went to house of colour last week, I thought it was really worth it.

You?re basically told if you are a Spring/Summer/Autumn or Winter then advised which colours and make-up to go for.

I was sure I was going to be an Autumn and actually was a Winter so I do think it's harder than you think to work it out for yourself and need someone else to be objective.

I've only been shopping once so far but it's easier to filter stuff out which is just not worth trying on. Or if your're indecisive like me just give you a bit more focus on what you should be looking for.

oooh you are so lucky Sesi...I was an autumn and quite annoyed as like wearing all those bright colours. It has made a big difference, so much easier for shopping.

I went to House of Colour, the woman was good...think either is probably fine, best if you can find a recommended person probably.

Hey
Did this just last week - colour me beautiful - was interesting - but lots of things you already know.

Did it with big group of girls which was fun.

Think it totally depends on the individual stylist you get tbh.

Sesi · 21/11/2009 21:31

How big a group was it with colour me beautiful marthastewart?

I think with house of colour they don't have more than 6, but prefer less. I did it in a group of 3, none of us knew each other before.

I think too many people and you may not get much attention. Our session was 5 and a half hours long. So plenty of time on each of us.

Being a 'Winter' is a bit out there, the colours! Fuschia, Electric blue etc but as much as I don't love those colours they really look good on me.

Montifer · 21/11/2009 22:01

I had an individual session with a House of Colour consultant, don't think I would have gone for a group session .
I'd agree that a personal recommendation would be the best option, but think that any consultant should be able to identify the right colours for you.

I too was very surprised to be 'Winter' having worn 'Autumn' colours for years, so think it was definitely worth them money.

I have subsequently looked at this book and don't think I could have worked my colours out on my own, but can totally see what suits me now I know.

Thanks for your replies. They've given me the confidence to go ahead. Think I'm going to book one with a color me beautiful consultant who a couple of people have recommended. I'll post up my experience in a few days, hopefully!

Hey there Sesi - yes it was a large group but I think the consultant was giving a taster evening - due to recession, giving discount evenings to groups in the hope that they follow up with individual sessions or gifts for Christmas etc.

I was lucky in that she choose me to demonstrate the process - so I effectively got the condensed treatment! It was fun definitely but as you say not great to do in a big group due to time constraints!

Did find some of the advice interesting though, happiest moment being told I could wear black! Otherwise would have to cull half my wardrobe.

Good luck with your consultation - look forward to hearing how you get on !

marthastewart · 24/11/2009 13:45

meant good luck squashpie! Know you have already had a session Sesi!
