Dress for work - wool, check?

I spent Wednesday trying on pretty much every check wool dress I could find. So many of them were not very flattering when on. In fact, the only one that was just right was one I wasn't even supposed to be trying on as it was WAY above budget.

Black and white check Seymour dress on this page, can't seem to link to individual item.

It's £150 which is totally totally out of the question. I would consider going up to about £100 for a really great dress but would ideally spend less than £70.

I also have this from M&S from a much more reasonable £35 and I love it. I am wearing it at least once a week. I just fancied something a little bit less plain and for some reason am liking wool/tweed dresses.

Anyone know of any other wool type dresses suitable for work that would be in budget?

Or know about a massive 50% off sale that Hobbs are about to have

There is a checked wool one in Gap - the shape did nothing for me so I didn't get it but it looked nice on the hanger

Black and grey at M&S.

Sleeveless at FC. Could perhaps layer this or wear under a buttoned jacket to dress it down.

Brown check at Warehouse.

Tunic style at ASOS by Mango. Out of stock on the ASOS website but possibly available elsewhere.

Cowl neck at ASOS again but no wool content.

Grey check at Planet. Was £129.00 is now £89.00.

This Wallis dress isn't wool or checked but is similar to the M&S one you love and is just £37.00 and has 20% at the moment.

Hard to find a wool dress under £100.00. Might be worthwhile holding out and seeing if there are any promtional codes for the wool dress you really like.

*promotional aswell.

Did you try the one in Laura Ashley?

NorkilyChallenged · 21/11/2009 15:39

This Laura Ashley one? Just noticed they have 25% off today!!

Yes, I tried it on (feel like I tried on about 45 dresses). It was nice but the top was a bit.... bulky, because of all the pleats in the top which would look nice if I were a bit better endowed but otherwise just looked a bit puffy and unpleasant on me.

Oh meant to say to Edinburger, I was in our local Gap this week and didn't see a check one in there (it's quite a small store though).

Noddy! I hadn't seen that one before. Not sure about the skirt on it, would definitely have to try it on and see how it looks. Interesting though (and well within budget, yay!)
