Have £35 to spend in M&S, what shall I treat myself to?

The dh bank manager has given me a £35 voucher for M&S. What shall I get?

Nothing old ladyish, 5 foot 5 hourglass, big boobs and bum. Still in a 14 after having baby but will be back in a 10/12 soon hopefully.

I'm trying to build a capsule wardrobe around black skinny jeans and over knee boots. Also have black sweater dress which I'm wearing with midnight blue tights. Trying to incorporate blues into everything.

Thanks

Cake, what do you think of the electric blue silk dress I linked? I could wear it with my long sleeved black tee underneath and black tights and boots.

if you are in fact the hourglass you say you are, I think it would be deeply unflattering - the cut and the fabric. Sorry. Also, as you say, not a good fabric for full time mothering!

suwoo · 20/11/2009 21:44

Really?? Yes, I am a true hourglass. I have big boobs, small waist (long body), flat stomach and big hips/arse. It is a shape I find normally works well for me. The belt highlights the waist and the bottom half skims. I am ok with high necks as they don't seem to be unflattering boobwise.

I'm looking at the middle picture. Her bum looks big.

That shape in a heavier fabric = vastly different story

suwoo · 20/11/2009 21:53

Maybe her bum is big? Not as big as 44 inches clearly . I have found that fabric flattering with tights on- fucking shocking without though...bleurgh.

well then .. you know best!
Give it a whirl - can always send it back if no good

Have lost 5lb, woo hoo! Has taken 2 sodding weeks though ...

suwoo · 20/11/2009 22:03

I need to go in store anyway, as have a voucher and a credit note. Not keen on actual real life shopping as tend to have at least one child with me. Shall I show you what I am really liking from Asos? You might think it is unsuitable too though.....

Well done on the 5lb, I am really struggling- am dieting but its not coming off. At least 1 stone to go to be at my absolute maximum.

Asos dress

LetThemEatCake · 20/11/2009 22:09

I am struggling too, was 5lb in a week back in the old days ... have had to cut out nearly every food group and do no carbs after 5 to shift those 5lb ,,, ugh

yes, link to Asos!! sorry to be unenthusiastic about the dress, don't want to be a downer

LetThemEatCake · 20/11/2009 22:14

sorry, didn't see the link. Um, don't hate me .. it's polyester

suwoo · 20/11/2009 22:15

No you're not, but you have put me off it a bit, which is fine. Another one I liked is out of stock, was this one
I linked to the Asos one above. Maybe I should stop shopping and start losing some fucking weight. Yep, it is really hard this time. I need to do some excercise though.
I haven't tried the dress on again yet, will do so in the morning x

Its £32

suwoo · 20/11/2009 22:17

Whats the problem with polyester? will it make me smell? At least you can wash it though eh, unlike the silk.

OP posts:
LetThemEatCake · 20/11/2009 22:27

Yes, I've got a stone to go before I'm at what I deem to be 'acceptable' and another 5lb beyond that to be good.

anyway .. polyester:

  1. You said that you were going to go for quality from now on
  2. It will not hang well
  3. It will cling, especially over tights and most likely in all the wrong places

heavy fabrics, heavy fabrics, heavy fabrics!! not velvet and stuff - just jersey, heavy cotton, wool etc

suwoo · 20/11/2009 22:32

Noted.

Will listen, learn and do as I'm told .

Find me a frock in Marksies then . Sorry I'm only joking, I don't want you to be my personal shopper. Not sure about jersey though, that clings to all my arse ripples.

obviously not styled like this though

got something very similar to this from Gap, no frill on mine though, think the frill might put you off. I wear mine with leggings and boots, looks reasonably cool

I really like this .. shame only in brown though, no good with your black boots

polyester again but I think more stylish than the ASOS one - nice cuff detail

perfect for you

suwoo · 21/11/2009 08:38
  1. I really like it and think with brown tights I could get away with my boots but, it is very clingy at the back and the reviewers also comment on that. That is a huge no-no for me.

  2. Its OK, but I lived in a dress similar when BF, so am a bit 'over' them.

3)I love the shape of that one, perfect shape for me, but not liking the stripes at all.

4)I'm really not feeling this one, it looks a bit old for me I think.

5)I was so excited when you said it would be perfect and I saved it for last in anticipation of your super styling skills. My first thought when I opened it was...
Biatch

likes it more than no4 though

LetThemEatCake · 21/11/2009 08:59

Suwoo!!! You do know that number 5 was a joke don't you????!!!!!

LetThemEatCake · 21/11/2009 09:01

Well, I went through all 360 'everyday dresses' and those four were the only contenders, I think. So maybe accessories are the go?

suwoo · 21/11/2009 10:00

You are right, they are the ones I liked best, plus this polyester one

And yes, I did realise it was a joke, Duhhh.

OP posts:
suwoo · 21/11/2009 10:01

polyester.

I have the first dress LTEC linked to and it looks a lot more expensive than it was on (I wear it with black leather over the knee flat boots) - just pop an underdress thingy underneath and it is cling free.

The 3rd one with the stripes is repulsive in rl. I ordered it and when I took it out of the bag I didn't even bother trying it on it was so foul.

I also have the cashmere beret. I was adding some chicness to the Tottenham football stands in it this afternoon!

I've just stocked up on their thermals for my trip to Eurodisney next week (which according to MNers seems to have its own freak weather system)

I'd go with the polyester dress. Not a fan of the stuff myself but you seem to like it and I think it looks like it'd be flattering.

monkeysmama · 22/11/2009 22:22

You seem to like the dress I mean, not polyester .

LetThemEatCake · 22/11/2009 23:53

suwoo - what did you get?? (if anything yet)

mm - a good day to be a Spurs supporter!!

monkeysmama · 23/11/2009 08:45

Yes, what did you get?

LTEC was indeed a good day. T'was also my little sister's first match - we picked a good one to take her to!
