I'm weighing this up at the moment. It feels like a really huge decision to me for many reasons so I was hoping that anybody who's had the op could answer a few questions for me...

  1. Are you happy with the results?
  2. Do you think about the need to replace them further down the line or worry about rippling/displacement/etc.?
  3. Do you think (some) people perceive you differently because of your implants?
  4. What do you think you will do as the rest of your body ages - take them out because it may look odd or just have everything else made to look younger ;) ?

Im happy with my results, had them done over a year ago. I fully expect to have to change them but not for another 10/15 years +.

I do have rippling on mine which initially did really bother me. Its on the inside of my cleavage and can only be seen when Im bra less. Ive gotten used to it and in my case its caused by having overs with very little breast tissue. My main concern was capsular contraction so its worth going with a company/surgeon who offers free replacement if this happens.

Mine measure at being a 32 F (was a AA ) but because Im broad and they suit my frame you would never know they were fake (apart from when Im in the buff). After seeming initially huge though they now feel quite small!!!!

Mine are the perfect size for me as I can either cover them up fairly well so no one notices or in the right bra I can make them look huge. Sizing isn't an exact science though I asked to be a D! m glad Im not though.

i forgot to answer the last bit
when it comes for them to be replaced i'll prob go for the tear drop for a more natural shape - i have rounds at the minute which can be made to look very fake and would not go with a saggy body !

I do try and keep in shape though and I wouldnt rule out having a nip an a tuck in the future if i can afford it.

thisxgirl · 17/11/2009 22:10

I like the idea of tear drops - I would very much like to look natural - but get a bit put off by the fact that the implant could move and change the shape, whereas if a round implant moves the shape remains the same.

Your boobs are huge, wow! I think your frame is crucial to picking a size though and balance is most important.

My DP said he might be a bit embarrassed if I got implants and has concerns about them looking fake in 'normal' life, as opposed to in magazine pictures and a fantasy celebrity/porn realm. I share that concern...I live in a smallish town, you become aware of most people in your age group that live here, and I would be one of about five girls with it done. It would just cause a fuss, as silly as that sounds, and I really wouldn't be having it done to draw maximum attention to myself.

Just as an aside from a GP's point of view: your implants can be in the way when you need chest X-Rays taken or later on when the time comes for mammograms. It's a technical problem I thought you should be aware of.

FWIW, I have seen my fair share of very nice, "natural" looking implants, if that's what you are after, girl . IME, finding the right surgeon for you is the key.

Good luck.

Hiya,

I had mine done about 6-7 years ago now. I had them done because my breasts were small and also very empty after breastfeeding 2 children. Like you, I really didn't get them done to draw attention to myself. I had massive confidence issues. My DP didn't want me to get them done, but is now happy/used to them. (My chest anyway!)

Anyway, I am happy with the results and definately fit my shape better IYKWIM. I am 32f, they look pretty natural, (especially since breastfeeding DD2 with them there.) They have over the time I have had them, dropped a bit so sit more naturally.

I will have them replaced, eventually when it's required.

I don't think many people know I have implants as I don't mention it much.

abitchilly · 18/11/2009 09:05

Yes, get tear drop shapes and under the muscle, especially if you're slim-ish.

Had mine done in April - should have done it years and years ago. Had real confidence issues but didn't really realise how bad they were until I looked more 'balanced'.

For the very flat chested (ie me) it runs as deep as not feeling like you ever really went through puberty and that you're not a proper woman.

I didn't go that big - from 34AA (still not filling bra) to 34 C/D. The tear drop does look quite natural and no rippling, I guess because under the muscle. Shape and position made it more expensive though. I don't think they'll look odd as I get older particularly but we'll see!

As for other people's perceptions, it's nobody's business really. I wouldn't tell them about other intimate procedures I could have done, so why this? Although I have told people since just because it somehow came up in conversation. Nobody guessed though. I don't mind who knows really.

MillyMollyMoo · 18/11/2009 09:51

I have tear drop implants and love them, after breast feeding three babies I was left with a pair of squeezed out tea bags.

I made the mistake of telling people and I wouldn't do that again, people did think I was very vain and indulgent lol

As for replacing them, yes I expect to do that every 10 years, will be delighted if I don't have to of course.

My plan is to basically keep very fit, make sure I work the chest and back muscles at the gym so I don't waste the money and effect of the boob job, I think that's really important that if you're spending all that cash on your boobs you have to maintain your weight and look after your figure otherwise what's the point.

Feelingforty · 18/11/2009 10:12

I had mine ( I'm on the other thread too) 12 years ago. When I had a lump, the consultant looked at my boobs with an ultrasound, so there are ways around mammagrams etc.

I was horrified by the hugeness at first, going from an 34AA cup to a full 34C.

I've gone under the muscle & I although there is no visible rippling, I can feel a couple of bubbles. DH can't though & he thinks they are fabulous.

I have to admit to never showing mine off, so if I could do it again, I would go to a B cup. I'm interested in the teardrop shape too.

I bf my 2 DC for a total of 4.5 years with no problems. I think doing this gave softened them up(stretched the skin?) I don't have any stretch marks on them, but I do think think they are too full.

I've told a couple of very best friends + my mum & DH. No-ones business as far as I'm concerned.

Some women continue to have good boobs/legs/stomach as they get older (helen mirren) so I'll worry about that when I get there.

thisxgirl · 18/11/2009 10:48

I think one of the reasons why I'm reluctant to do it is because I don't actually have disproportionately small breasts. I'm a 6/8, 5'2 and my breasts are a B cup. It seems less justifiable than if I had AA cups, you know? If they were a 'good-looking' B cup I'd probably accept them but I do think one is a larger B and the other is a smaller one, and I'm also convinced they look a bit 'snoopy'! DP tells me this is in my head, I don't know, he would wouldn't he? Part of me thinks they're just normal, natural breasts and I have unrealistic expectations of them.

Thanks for the feedback!

Don't feel your procedure would be in any way less valid just because you're not super flat. It can still affect you just as much.

A lot of surgeons offer free consultation prior to actually committing to anything.

So go and chat - they may recommend a lift or something different from implants.

spugs · 18/11/2009 16:32

I was told that having implants wouldn't effect lump detection

I wouldn't have told people either as you do get quizzed a lot and people seem to think your boobs are public property! People who I didn't tell at work have never noticed even though I went from being completely flat to having more then a handful Luckily other people aren't as obsessed and don't notice our boobs as much as we do (unless you tell them you've had it done then they cant help but stare)
