Economy brand makeup help

lorrycat · 16/11/2009 11:18

I currently use MAC foundation and dermalogica face products. However, I am in need of some cut backs and so have decided that these branded products are not really a necessity.

Could anyone suggest a more reasonably priced brand that they use? I couldn't live without my foundation, i like a good coverage that holds up to combination skins (and oily patches).

Thanks

ELF Not sure about the foundataion, but I've heard good things about the general quality.

Barbara Daly makeup at Tesco's is really good.

TheCrackFox · 17/11/2009 16:09

Maybelline seems to be quite good.

For face products cheaper (but still expensive) is Liz Earle for really cheap I fine Simple to be very good.

noddyholder · 17/11/2009 16:15

bourjois is good

I have combination skin and use the one step powder foundation from the Barbara Daly range at Tesco's and have done for a few years - would definitely rate it.

Sleek eyeshadows from Superdrug are great, especially the iDivine palettes, which are about a fiver for 12 colours that are wearable and long-lasting.

Seconding Bourjois.

Sorry lorrycat, you won't want to hear this but I ditched the expensive foundation and went to Rimmel/Bodyshop but it never gave the same look/coverage (basically I still looked haggard even with all their slap on!), so I went back to Chanel for the foundation/highlighter and use Boots Natural Collection - excellent value £2 for a lipstick, similar price for eyeliner/mascara etc.

momijigari · 17/11/2009 20:00

I have heard that Bourjois is made in the same factory as Chanel.

ASDA do FAB eyeshadows in great colours for a 31 a pop!

I have stocked up on their 'nude' colour, a caramelly brown which is great for blue eyes. Their £1 nail varnishes are good too.

Tesco's do 'value' lipglosses which are fine for sticking in your handbag for a gloss emergency.

CybilLiberty · 17/11/2009 20:01

Meant £1 a pop

Try Lily Lolo's mineral foundation - very good coverage when you get the hang of it, and you can order small samples to make sure you get the right colour. IME, colour's one of the most important factors in a foundation, and bourjois/rimmel have a tendency to be too pink - especially if you're used to MAC.

hazeyjane · 17/11/2009 20:07

I agree that Barbara daly at Tesco is fantastic (esp one step makeup)

I find Maybelline mineral foundation really good (I have very pale, oily skin, that needs a lot of coverage!) used on top of concealer, there mineral concealer is good for under eye shadows and lasts for ages.

For blushers, eyemakeup and lipstick I think bourjois are great.

Collection 2000 mascara is fab.

Palmers Cocoa Butter makes a great face & body moisturiser.

Avon glimmersticks eyeliners are really good. Also they have loads of other lovely stuff, and brilliant offers. I'd recommend their room & linen sprays.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 17/11/2009 20:20

Might I respectfully submit that linen and room sprays might too easily eat up any change you have from trading in your MAC make-up?
