How old were you when you started using face cream?

I am considering starting to use face cream as a preventative measure!

My "beauty routine" currently consists of waking up, washing with water (soap destroys me), cleaning my teeth and er, that's it...!

So, I think it's high time I did something extra...

which creams would you recommend? I'm 26 and poor...

I'm 24 and have occasionally used some night creams lol

As a preventative of course...

malfoy · 16/11/2009 05:11

Good grief! I am obviously a freak. I think I started when I was 12.

So recommendations but get something with an SPF. Supermarkets/ Superdrug do own brands for not too much.

malfoy · 16/11/2009 05:13

I was supposed to type no recommendations.

Have used eye cream since 19, going for prevention rather than cure. Simple products are cheap and oftem 3 for 2 in boots. I'd start now if i was you can't do any harm

If you mean a moisturiser, I was about 14 i think- have never "washed" my face since then and always use cleanser- began with baby lotion at about 13!

Lizzylou · 16/11/2009 08:47

I have used moisturiser and eye cream since mid-20's.
These days my stuff comes from Aldi/Tescos or Boots 3 for 2, I have had to go cheaper now I don't earn. Not so much difference though I don't think, just not so nice packaging!
The Aldi stuff is good, and the supermarkets always have stuff reduced.

Bonsoir · 16/11/2009 08:48

Teens.

Bonsoir · 16/11/2009 08:49

I used the Clinique 3-step routine from about 14 onwards.

Ewe · 16/11/2009 09:04

From about 13/14 here too, I currently use Clarins Multi-Active Day Cream - SPF15.

I use the Clarins Extra-Firming night cream as it's very rich and moisturising, even though I am only 22! I use a Decleor wrinkle prevention eye cream.

The products aren't that cheap but do last for ages!

My Mum bought me some when I was about 11 I think. Have used it religiously ever since.

I'm 44 and people often think I'm in my early 30s.

My face would literally crack if I didn't put moisturiser on.

Not necessarily expensive stuff, I like natural creams.

My Mum is 5 yrs younger than her sister who has never used creams and people usually think they are mother and daughter, to my Mum's smugness and her sister's horror.

Bonsoir · 16/11/2009 09:43

Your DH is too sceptical, Riven.

My family has a roof over its head and full tummies thanks to sales of creams and unguents and they really do work - I have tried so many (DP brings me bags full home to try) that I can state, categorically, that there are big differences between creams and that some of them are little short of miraculous!

I started at 36!

I too just use water in the shower to wash my face.

I've started using something light with a spf in it, the spf being the most important part.

Bonsoir · 16/11/2009 09:52

Is he a dermatologist Riven?

Ha ha ha at a mathematician having any idea about face cream .

purplepeony · 16/11/2009 09:58

Riven's DH is partly right- all the creams do is stop the moisture escaping by putting a barrier on the skin. If they contain Retinol ( derived from Vitamin A) they will erase wrinkles. but the amount needed would have to be prescrpition strength to really work.

I have very senstive, fine skin so always need a good dollop of gunk on it to keep it supple/smooth.

The best things youca n do for your skin are;

*do not smoke
*don't drink alcohol ( dehydrates it)
*exercise- gets the blood flowing
keep out of the sun ( No. 1 really) and always *use an SPF all year round- factor 25 or over - anything else is useless.
*Get plenty of Omega 3 in your diet from oily fish.

I am not boasting, but I have used an SPF 25 or 40 under make up for the past 20 years and the woman on the make up counter thought I was 10 years younger than I am.

I started at 11!! my mum encouraged me to and i would use hers till i was old enough to choose and buy my own. (and am now nearly 30) and have always had pretty good skin.

FWIW i dont think its necessary to spend a fortune, the main thing is sun protection, for the last couple of years I have used a high SPF every day as well (spf30) as like another poster said, sun exposure is one of the biggest causes of wrinkles.

i also drink tons and tons of water too, thats another way to get good skin.
