Do home laser hair removal machines work?

Has anyone actually used any of these laser hair removal machines?

I am so fed up of constantly having to wax, but getting it done at a beauty salon just seems ridiculously expensive (I was quoted £250 for a session to do 1/2 leg, underarms & bikini line, and told I would probably need 3 or 4 sessions).

Grateful if you could share your experiences .

No idea but hoping someone does as I'm unwilling to fork out loads of money for something that doesn't really work ...

Putting this on watch as I would buy one if they did actually work. I've looked on reviews but it's hard to work out. Also some of them were £750 plus .

I'd be a bit scared TBH. You could do yourself some serious, permanent damage with a home laser kit. You can get burns, scarring, mottling, you can even get "reactive hair" which grows even thicker in response to the laser rather than getting thinner! I'd definitely save up and see a properly qualified person or just stick with waxing if I were you.

I swear by an epilator. My legs are bald in places after continual use and the hair grows finer.

@wts - you're probably right - just I can't afford the huge amount it would cost to get laser/IPL treatment in a salon and am tempted by either the Rio home laser jobby or the Boots own IPL kit - they're still pretty expensive but hundreds of pounds rather than thousands - and I am desperate to find something that will deal with my beard chin hair!

No, not really - just went through menopause early and few hairs on chin seem to have invited a lot of friends round ... have tried electrolysis which worked for a while but am a bit skint atm and have been plucking which irritates my skin and leaves me in lumps - very attractive NOT!

I seriously doubt whether the laser allowed for home use would be any good...because I have had it done professionally at (for me) significant cost and it still didn't do a fantastic job and it burned and hurt a lot!

If I remember rightly, the scientific evidence (which was of questionable quality but I did a medline search) that I read before my treatment also indicated that the person administering the professional laser treatment is as important in the cosmetic outcome as the strength of the laser/for how long etc.

Maybe something to think about.

No experience of home machines but I had laser hair removal a few years back at a salon, Had the whole lot done, arms, under arms, legs, bikin line, upper lip..

I have brown skin and black hair - it worked amazingly well on all areas - I have very little re-growth several years on so no need to wax ever again, It did cost £££ in total but worth every penny to me!
