I am mourning my boots....

... and I never even really had them.

I need new winter boots. I love these (although in black) and have saved up for them with my new part-time-work-and-nursery-fees income. They are fabulous, and I could see me skipping off to work or play in them.

So with great glee, I went my local branch of Schuh this week, the day after my birthday. None in stock in black in my size so I tried them on in red for size. Side zip a bit stiff, but did up. Ordered my size (8) in black.

Went to pick up new uber-boots today. Tried them on. No way were they going to do up. Skinny Emo tennage shop assistant looked very concerened as crazy middle age mum was wrestling with zips. Had to admit defeat and leave my fabulous boots in shop. I am bereft.

Don't tell me to look at Duo boots. I have had two pairs, and both have been a bit pants.

That's really disappointing, I know what it's like when you have your heart set on something.

Was there really no chance of zipping them up? I bought boots last week, and the brown 36 wouldn't zip up, but the black did for some wierd reason.

Maybe the zip was a bit stiff? Would it be worth going back for them, and try them at home with no-one watching? I would give them another try before you give up.

My friend got totally STUCK trying on a pair of boots. It was a very busy day in Oxford Street, and it took ages to get the shop assistant to come and help. When they finally did they came with a big pair of scissors and cut her out!

My friend isn't easily embarrassed usually, but that day she was very !!

MaggiePie · 13/11/2009 23:07

well, i feel your pain. i tried on fitflop mukluk boots today and they just looked silly. I had on really tapered (not skinny) trousers and they didn't sit right. Looked terrible.

cut out of booots on oxford street oh em gee!

BikeRunSki · 15/11/2009 12:31

Verity - no, they really, really, really were not going to do up. Nearly, but not quite. I know they are leather and will stretch, but £125 is a lot of cash to take a chance on. I think I will have to keep going into shoe shops until I find a pair that has been tried on a few times, and is a little bit more stretched that the box-fresh pair I tried on.

Evans boots fit larger legs, I know it took me ages to find some.

charlotteolivia · 15/11/2009 13:58

So, I will raise you your embaressment factor:
I went into Hobbs last winter.... Bit of a sale on. Not massive. But the boots were down to about £120 I think.
I try them on.... ooh... left one zips up.
Right one gets stuck. an inch from the top.
Stuck fast.

The sales assistant tries to get it off.

Then the manager comes along

She can't get it off.

I end up getting cut out of this pair of v.nice. v.expensive boots in Hobbs by the manager, with the sales asst holding my leg in the air so the manager could get a good 'angle'

Oh the shame.....

Hi
I have the calf ones in brown and black in high and I never really wear the black ones are they are abit too high up and dont look right on with with skirts etc, prefer the calf ones. Have you tried these instead?

My friend tried 6 pairs of fly mol size 6 black before she could do them up and she has slim calfs!

I feel your pain...

ilovegreenbeans · 15/11/2009 15:17

I have the Mes and they are wonderful. Not as high as the Mol and therefore no calf-sticking issues.

donnie · 15/11/2009 15:20

why don't you try fly Midas boots? they have an elasticated panel all down the outside so are stretchy. I got mine for £60 on amazon!

seeyounexttues · 15/11/2009 15:26

Same as Style, I was going to suggest the calf ones here, and have just noticed on that website you used that they do ankle ones too.

I'm not going to lie to you though, they are really comfortable, no squished toes

Hi Style I thought about the Mes boots. Tried them on, but look too silly short ( I am quite tall). I will look at Evans. Depserately twww.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/861112-I-am-mourning-my-bootsrying to avoid buying the same pair of boots for the third time... Have had these in brown and red.
