Curly hair - when will it be in fashion?

MissGreatBritain · 13/11/2009 21:51

I hate my curly hair. Well I say curly, it's a bit wavy, a bit curly and a bit fuzzy. I've spent the past year or two straightening it every day, but with the damp weather lately it's a constant battle to keep it straight. So have decided to let it curl/wave/frizz. Is it dreadfully unfashionable? Can anyone suggest any styles to make it look cool? It's about shoulder length, fringe being grown out, darkish brown and quite thin and fine.

(Have already thought of a balaclava so please don't suggest that ).

I have shoulder lenghth blonde curly hair and i am the envy of all my friends with their dull straight hair..embrace your curls and don't fight the frizz.who cares about fashion?
disclaimer ..I am young looking and fairly trendy but my hair does not want to be straight so why make it so

tiredfeet · 13/11/2009 23:16

I have straight hair, I wish I had curly hair, I think it looks lovely, who cares whether its fashionable! straight hair looks so dull

mummyofevilprincesses · 13/11/2009 23:38

I have learned to embrace my curls- f*ck fashion, they are pretty and bouncy and natural

Taramuddle · 13/11/2009 23:52

I have thick curly(ish) hair which I too straighten but now don't seen to find the time to. Have you tried using Tigi Fashionista smooth & shine? It keeps your curls together so your hair is less frizzy but still remains soft unlike some other products. I use it when I wear my hair straight or curly.

I'm leaving my hair curly just now, well wavy curls. Just leave it to dry and then put on curl cream stuff. Stays the same way whole day where as if I strighten it its fizzy in an hour or so.

FlappyTheBat · 14/11/2009 00:02

I just wish my hair would decide what it wants to be!

Have been straightening it for 2 years now as it's straight from roots for a couple of inches but gets wavy or really curly when it's wet!!

Just looks awful most of the time, thank goodness for GHDs'

Curly Girl thread(s) on here...

It is now, according to the currnet issue of Vogue. Both 'frizzy haystack' and 'glamour waves' are featured. My hair sits naturally between the two.

I've bought some tongs to attempt the 'glamourous waves' look for evening 'dos'.

Hairdresser & I discussed this yesterday, in the context of Posh's latest do - a wavy bob. Hairdresser says get some heated rollers to get the look. Will find a pic.

I have fabulous long wavy ringletty (dyed) red hair, and am the envy of many of my friends too. John Frieda is my friend, I use the frizz ease serum and the dream curls spray (I actually mix the two together in the pump bottle with a little of the curl around conditioner and some water and spray it liberally on my hair after each wash) and my Remington Hair Envy diffuser turn my frizzy Crystal Tips fuzz into a glorious mane. The top tip from my hair dresser (who has long naturally curly hair herself) was to only comb it, with a wide toothed comb, when it's wet, once it's dry, style it with your fingers as much as possible. Also, try not to wash it too often, I only wash mine every 4 or 5 days, the more you wash it, the dryer it gets.

No straighteners in my house!!

GreenMonkies · 14/11/2009 09:51

Blimey, that new do of VB's is hideous, it looks like she's slept badly on it and then not brushed it, very nasty indeed!!

Seededbiatch · 14/11/2009 09:58

Isn't it?

Who gives a shit?

If ever hair comes up in conversation with other women they will say how lovely my curls are and you know what? I agree with them!

If you are out the head that you will notice will be the one that is full of beatiful, well kept, natural, bouncy curls not the any one of the of boring straightened ones.

Embrace and enhance your curls. I can recommend the curly girl method, I've been following it since hearing about it on here and it really does make your curls better.

Check out this website.

Wow, thanks for all your replies! GreenMonkies - I really like that new style of VB's, much softer. If mine would be like that I wouldn't mind, but I think what I need to do is find the ideal products. Will try the Tigi stuff (thanks Tara) and also your DIY John Frieda stuff Monkies! I wash mine every day because otherwise it's very greasy at the roots but really dry at the ends. May also have a go at the curly girl method. If I ever get it to look halfway decent then I'll post a pic! Thanks all for your advice.

Giraffes - love the fact that your hair "goes fizzy" . That's just how mine feels at times.

It's definitely less unfashionable than it used to be!

There was a time when I couldn't even go to tesco without trying (and failing) to straighten my hair).

I'm sittin here now with curly hair and it's not bothering me. It woould have upset me, just to catch a glimpse of this on my way to the loo five years ago.

fashions have changed I think.

elsiepiddock · 14/11/2009 10:48

I have got long curly hair and I love it. In fact I think of it as my best feature.

Mind you, I have had it dried straight at the hairdressers a few times and I looked dreadful - so it's a good job I like my curls!

chocolatespiders · 14/11/2009 10:51

you just have to go with it... forget fashion

Sarah harding had curls on johnathan Ross last night

Smalline · 14/11/2009 11:28

I absolutely love my curly hair especially since trying the 'no poo' method, have a look at this page

izzybiz · 14/11/2009 12:00

My hair is poker straight and I've spent my entire life wishing I had curly hair.

It never looks boring, lank, looks great just scraped up in a messy ponytail..... again!

SixtyFootDoll · 14/11/2009 12:06
