So I think I may have found a bag

have got this one coming

and if I don't like it, this one as backup

what do you think?

I really like the first option, however one thing going against it is the handles. They don't look long enough to go over your shoulder. Remember if you are using as a nappy bag, the chances are that you will have at least 1 DC with you. IME this also means you need two hands free.

The back up looks good too, but has a magnetic closure which I don't like for two reasons 1. the potential to wipe oystercards and hotel keys. 2. Easier access for pickpockets. Although if you are carrying nappies I'm guessing this is less of a concern.

HTH

LetThemEatCake · 15/11/2009 22:48

gah, you;re right on both counts. But we all know that if I love the first one, all of the nappy crap will simply get shoved in the under-pram carriage and the bag will be devoted to all things LTEC..

I don't know about that particular Tabitha bag (which I may just have to buy BTW) but one of my Tabitha bags has a magnetic closure. On the inside it has a zipped pocket that is easily big enough to take my wallet so it is well protected from pickpockets. Nappies, wipes and fluffy toys in the bag were, however, quite vulnerable to pickpockets. I guess I've just been lucky so far.

monkeysmama · 15/11/2009 23:15

I still prefer the first one - I think you can get cheaper ones like the second one which are really nice but the first one is a classic you'l have forever. I too have a thing for stars. My daughter is one (Stella ).

LetThemEatCake · 15/11/2009 23:16

I'm having a little holiday from cloth nappies at the moment - will go back to them when the weather is warmer, drying easier etc etc- but all the times that I was lugging around pooey nappies in my bag and almost wishing some fecker would nick it!!!! what a punishment!!

OP posts:
LetThemEatCake · 15/11/2009 23:18

MM - my first child - a dd - was called Star.

DH and I both have star tattoos to remember her [smile}

Stella is a beautiful name. So that's what you had all over your t-shirt in hospital!!!

monkeysmama · 15/11/2009 23:27

Well remembered, yes indeed. And luckily they were very much in fashion that year - I also had a matching headband but that is forgivable because it was hot, I was pregnant and had let Vidal Sassoon convince me to have an awful fringe cut.

I have a star tattoo on my wrist. It was my second tattoo. I have a teardrop on my other wrist .

LetThemEatCake · 15/11/2009 23:38

my star is my wrist too!

This is what I hate about MN - I'm too bloody nosey and curious by half. I will now

a) be looking at everyone's wrists next time I am in your neck of the woods
b) be wondering - why the teardrop??

For my next tattoo, I want a mermaid, with 4 stars above her head, one of each of my dcs. But only if i can find someone to do it in a non-tacky way.

verdict on the Rika Star bag - it arrived today

I have had the shittiest day. The kind of day that makes me wonder if I have any aptitude for this mothering lark whatsoever, the kind of day where my kids probably go to bed miserable and I despise myself for not being more patient etc etc

After the dcs went to bed, I lifted the bag from its wrapping and it did absolutely nothing to lift my mood or gladden my heart. At that price, I want more than a bag, I want happiness. So it's going back.

LTEC - hope today is a better day..we all have them and it was Monday and raining. Anyway does bag look better today as I think it is lovely although quite pricey.

traceybath · 17/11/2009 12:02

Do you know I don't think that black bags ever have that 'wow' factor.

Could you be persuaded into colour? I'm currently using a mulberry somerset tote in a sort of raspberry/muted cherry colour I got at Bicester. Its lovely and cheering.

Have also lost a little weight yeay.

On the negative side - have got mice and our landlord is being tricksy and I'm over-sensitive.

Hope today is better.

tattycoram · 17/11/2009 12:16

Well, that frees up some money to buy something you really love . Are you feeling better today? I think I'm quite near you and it's very sunny round here

carciofi · 17/11/2009 13:06

LTEC, check out Botkier bags, I have the black Trigger and often use it to lug dd's stuff around.

Tracybath, ugh, mice!

VerityBrulee · 17/11/2009 13:54

LTEC hope you're having a better day today, it happens to us all (regularly!)

LetThemEatCake · 17/11/2009 14:40

You guys are so lovely. Thank you, yes things are better today and I can look at dcs 1&2 without wanting to scream. However the bag still leaves me feeling a bit flat. It is divine but just not amazing enough- and, as choogirl suggested, the strap is not long enough to be worn over the shoulder.

Tracey, I could definitely be persuaded into colour!! Anyone fancy doing some virtual shopping for me??

You poor thing, mice. We had them at our place, am sure children and their endless food scraps don't help.. We've now got (childless) tenants in and they've not complained of them at all.... On the weight front, well done!! mine is coming off way too slowly so am upping the Vorderman ante with no carbs after 5.

Tatty, where are you ? I'm se London, are we neighbours?

OP posts:
LetThemEatCake · 17/11/2009 14:43

carciofi I like your bag!! Anyone know where else I can -drool- -over- look at Botkier?

OP posts:
carciofi · 17/11/2009 14:55

LTEC, glad you are feeling better. Check out www.botkier.com/ for London stockists. Selfridges and Harvey Nicks used to sell them, not sure if they still stock them. I bought mine 6 years ago in the US and it is still going strong.

tattycoram · 17/11/2009 16:10

Hey! Quite possibly. I thought you were SW. I'm in Kennington. You?

LetThemEatCake · 17/11/2009 16:29

Yes! Close. In camberwell until recently, now forest hill. Am a regular at oval farmers Market and vauxhall farm. How old are your dcs?

OP posts:
tattycoram · 17/11/2009 19:31

One ds, three in January. We're planning to move to Forest Hill or Crystal Palace - we desperately need more space and a garden. Perhaps I can grill you pick your brains when we do actually do it. . We were going to start looking this autumn but DH's job is looking a bit precarious at the mo.

geordieminx · 17/11/2009 22:02

£500 with discount at moment.

LETC - My sis is in Earlsfield... is that near to you (((((thick notherner))))

LetThemEatCake · 18/11/2009 09:59

Space and gardens abound around here- we're up on the hill with a view of London, can see wembley, battersea power station, the eye, St Paul's, canary wharf... Yet down the hill in east dulwich houses cost twice as much and are half as big... Go figure. That's the influence and presence of 'lifestyle stores' for you! Tatty- come meet us at the horniman one of these days, if you've not been before your ds will love it!

Geordie- earlsfield is sw, not far but not on the doorstep. Are u buying a bag????

And is no one going to swoon over the fuschia botkier??????

OP posts:
monkeysmama · 18/11/2009 10:12

I swooned even though fuscia's not my favourite colour. While checking out Geordie's suggestion I fell in love

Horniman museum is great! The robot exhibition was a big hit here & got all dd's Christmas stocking presents in the shop.

geordieminx · 18/11/2009 12:06

where is the link to the fuscia one?

tattycoram · 18/11/2009 13:32

We love the Horniman! DS was fascinated by the aquarium even when really tiny. I like the posters in Crystal Palace talking about the fresh air suburb. We could do a mn meet up in the Horniman cafe?
