Following on from the 'how much for a bag' thread

Those of you who are happy to spend larger amounts- how important to you is it that the bag is a recognizable label? Would you consider £500 for a gorgeous bag that isn't recognizably Mulberry, for instance, a waste? Is it important to you that the £££ of your bag is obvious?

I guess I would (hope) that I would buy it because I liked it, not because someone would see it and think "look at her with her £500 bag.. she must have a fair bit"

But then, I suppose that wrks with a lot of things - do people buy a branded anything because they
a) like the product
b) like the brand
c) want the social cudos (sp) of having it?

I do think sometimes in fashion(probably most things actually) where there is a major case of "emporers new clothes" - just because something appears in Vogue/is part of the Kate Moss collection or comes with a ££££ price tag people automatically want it - I wonder if you took a bag from Primark, rebaranded it and stuck it on net-a-porter as a "designer" bag fotr £500 how many people would buy it.

I recently bought a mulberry bag which I don't think is recognisably any particular brand - just bought it cos I like it, infact most of my expensive bags aren't recognisable come to think of it. Just feel gorgeous, look gorgeous (to me anyway!)

I don't like obvious labels/logos.

Can't stand obvious labels, so would avoid Marc Jacobs bags and other branded stuff.

SofaQueen has shown some beautiful Hermes bags and I have one in particular I do like. No branding, great colour.

i don't really like obvious branding, just beautiful, good quality bags that i will love and use for a long time to come. buy it cos you love the way it looks not cos its got someones name plastered over it.

OP - I'm a total Mulberry addict. But you don't always have to spend £££ on them. I'm lucky enough to live within striking distance of an outlet shop. I once got a black 'damaged' Bayswater for about £160. (It had already been repaired by the factory, apparently there was originally a minor stitching fault.)

Mind you, I met someone last week who told me they'd picked up a Mulberry in a charity shop in Bath for £2.50

I don?t generally go for the bags that are easily recognizable, yes it might be a "label" but I?m not usually drawn to the popular styles which I think can look a bit cheapened, especially when they are splashed across the glossies and every which celeb is photographed with.

I like the more subtle styles that are not covered in gold buckles, padlocks and chain and shout "look everyone I can afford an expensive bag!"

I'd like to think I could spot a Mulberry a mile off and so don't see why you'd spend £500 on a bag unless people knew it was a £500 otherwise you might as well go to RiverIsland, I don't care what people say about the quality of the leather or whatever at the end of the day it holds your purse and keys.

I buy bags that I like. I don't care about labels and I've never paid over £50 for a bag.

my most expensive bag isn't by a well known designer, but I just buy bags that I like regardless of the label.

I got a Chloè bag for my birthday. It's unlike anything I've seen elsewhere & feels luxurious. It's an across the body black sack style () which I use every day. It has a small metal plate inside with Chloè on it and a tiny emblem on the edge but I hold it so that bit can't be seen. Hate logos but love the bag. Dp chose it for me. He bought me a madly expensive Montblanc wallet once I made him take back - it felt crazy that it'd cost so much more than I'd ever have in it. I liked a green River Island one instead but it was heavily logoed and ended up getting an orange Tula one with no logos in tkmaxx.

Does feel nice having a good bag. I also have a beautiful watch and wear good shoes. Then most of my clothes are from H&M and New Look etc.

In the absence of shopping for myself (well, relatively speaking!!) , I'm pondering the shopping mindset of others.

We hear a lot on this board about why things aren't worth the money, and a lot of semi-outraged diatribes on waste and frivolity and vanity etc ... so I wanted to hear from people who are more spendy - and why.

It's my job to be curious!

I haven't seen the other thread, but I have a gorgeous Lamberson Truex bag that we paid around £550 for (and that was with a good exchange rate at the time - bought in Sweden).
I don't even know if others have heard of the brand or not, because I'm far from being a fashionista, but I bought it because I loved it, pure and simple.

It isn't important at all to me that the bag is a recognisable label. I like Mulberry and the Louis Vuitton Epi leather range because they have no obvious logos.

I know the Lambertson Truex bags, my dad has one (travel bag not man bag!).
