Estee Lauder double wear will last forever.

I love their new liquid minerals stuff mixed with a bit of spotlight illuminator and used to use idealist.

Laura Mercier primer is good but I don't think their foundation gives me the coverage I need.

LilianGish · 07/11/2009 15:30

Just thought, they'll probably discontinue it now - isn't that what always happens when you fall in love with a product!

madmissy · 08/11/2009 09:16

well went to the counter and the chanel lady has given me a tester for the pro lumirer so will try that today

i like the secret brightening powder that laura mercier do.. pointsmakesprizes that sounds similar to the smashbox??

I swear by Chanal VitaLumiere. In the summer, if it's really hot and there are 'sliding' issues', then Estee Lauder Double Wear does what it says 'on the tin' but I don't like the texture.

When I started wearing the Chanel people suddenly kept saying how 'well' I looked. (I must have looked at death's door previously but there you go! If you look ok to start with I'm sure it will do wonders.)

traceybath · 08/11/2009 18:15

Has anyone tried the new Dior one - nude skin or something like that.

purplepeony · 08/11/2009 18:51

Have you tried anything to ger rid of the dry patches? is it just dry or could it be eczema?

I like Clinique foundations nad have used several of them.

Currently using RepairWear- it gives great coverage yet looks natural. You only need the tiniest bit and it blends really well.

If you have a mix of dry/oily then their Superbalanced is supposed to be good.
TBH I'd try to balance your skin first.

SweetCecily · 08/11/2009 18:52

I use Clinique Supermoisture - it has a lovely texture and you can use it really sheer like a tinted foundation or build it up for a thicker coverage. And No 7 Translucent loose powder.

donnie · 08/11/2009 18:55

I have the clinique superbalance and also chanel vitalumiere, both excellent. The chanel is a bit thicker - I prefer applying the clinique.

Pollyanna · 08/11/2009 18:56

I really like Laura Mercier tinted moitsturiser - chanel vitelumiere makes me look too greasy/shiny. (I don't have dry skin)

Am looking for some foundation too though for evening/more coverage.

BurningBuntingFlipFlop · 08/11/2009 19:00

madmissy my skin sounds just like yours and i use Laura Mercier hydrating primer and their foundation. I only discovered it recently and to be honest it's all about the primer, it's amazing! I always thought primer was just a bit of a con but it makes all the difference. I tried the foundation without it and got my usual dry patches but with is so nice, i suspect you could use the primer with any old foundation tbh.

madmissy · 08/11/2009 19:38

tried that superbalanced before and i think i liked it...

LM is lovely and i am tempted to revert back and try primer!

so today i used the chanel and its lovely BUT i prefer my mac

purplepeony yes its excema and only flares up occasionally....

its so annoying as its red and sore but luckily only small patches

teameric · 08/11/2009 19:43

another vote for clinique superbalance here too, I have those annoying dry patches too, I also use clinique superfit foundation too.

madmissy · 08/11/2009 19:57

oooh tell me more about the superfit!

OP posts:
InterruptingKid · 08/11/2009 19:57

madmissy · 08/11/2009 20:17

foundation&OVRAW=clinique superfit foundation&OVKEY=clinique foundation&OVMTC=advanced&OVADID=7247769531&OVKWID=56063735531
most foundations tend to go patchy on me after a couple hours but this lasts well all day on me

purplepeony · 08/11/2009 20:58

madmissy- sorry it's eczema- my son has it and I used to -still get a tiny bit.

Did you know that you can get a cream now from a dermatologist- called Protopic- which is not a steroid but an immunosuppressant which you can sue on your face and which will not thin/harm the skin?

Your GP can't do it for you- you have to be referred to a dermo.

I'd still recommend Clinique as they are allergy tested.

madmissy · 08/11/2009 21:04

just been checking out that new get even one looks good!

its not too bad now im out of depression but can flare up if im stressed or over tired etc... my dd2 suffers with dry skin and a tad bit of soreness

will check out that cream thanks

saltyseadog · 08/11/2009 21:10

I love Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser - gives good coverage without the cakiness of heavier foundations.

madmissy · 10/11/2009 08:30

well gave the chanel another day- reasonable tester that they give you! and still not sure so counted that one out

have a small amount of LM left so will try that today but mac still winning

want to try the new clinique one though....

OP posts:
flyingcloud · 10/11/2009 14:33

Sounds like we have the same skin.

For cheap I have always used Bourjeois (sorry pregnant brain can't spell - there was one with v good coverage but I can't seem to find it anymore)

I have just bought myself the most extravagent present ever - Creme de la Mer foundation and I have to say I love it, it makes my skin glow, even though I have a tendency to oiliness with dry patches, it just evens it all out.

brokenrecord · 10/11/2009 14:44

Bobbi Brown - best I've found yet. Better than clinique for me which I find too pink. Chanel was ok, but didn't quite do it. Oh, and I used to love 20 watts by Stila - was my favourite but i can't find it any more...

madmissy · 10/11/2009 16:36

flying cloud i have not tried boujouis ? im pg too haha!

i was actually reading good stuff about maybelline today

put on my LM and liking that still but running out soon and still not perfect!

think i need to sort my skin out bit more too....

I have sensitive skin (Roseacea)and dry patches, with oily patches - nightmare! Anyway, have tried loads of different ones out, really to see which irritate the least and cover the redness the best.

Anyway - steer clear of the Dior Nude Skin one. The bottle is v pretty and the consistency good, and great for colour match. Unfortunately it really irritated my skin after a week or so and took a long time to recover to its former (not so good) state. Really stinks of alcohol too, noticably so. That cannot be good.

Anyway, after much testing, I found Clinique Get Even best for cover, colour match and consistency. Not drying but not too shiny for the oily bits, just right. I'm on my third bottle of it now so can't be bad!

Hersetta · 11/11/2009 10:02

I use Bobbi Brown Luminous Mousturising foundation. I love it becase it has light coverage and fives your skin a dewy luminous look which makes your skin look like new.

it got a brilliant review in the times.
