Not me, I wear jeans for work, but I work from home.

Was just thinking the other day that I don't have a pair of decent black trousers because I haven't worked in an office for a couple of years

MrsBadger · 05/11/2009 15:38

no but I know what you mean

jeans for me cause I never see patients unless I really can't help it

giggly · 05/11/2009 16:03

Pretty much yes, I work in the community and go in and out of some real manky houses hence the black trousers, although sometimes I wear a black skirt just for the hell of it. Also easier to hide blood stains when trying to kill said patients

AlaskaNebraska · 05/11/2009 17:35

I was notcing it mostly on admin folk I think

opps, sorry might just have let the cat out of the bag for clinical staff then.

BeehiveBaby · 05/11/2009 18:16

I am NHS admin and am meant to wear 'dark' trousers but don't always as my line manager never sees me. Will have to toe the line soon (with a 'pale' top) and was hoping to disect my options on here!

InterruptingKid · 05/11/2009 19:11

ooh no dark trews pale top is a no go here

jamaisjedors · 05/11/2009 19:55

Why?

BeehiveBaby · 05/11/2009 20:50

Hence the need to disect my options! Samatha Cameron has been wearing an interesting (eg. pleated) ivory shell top and black cigarette pants to good effect IMO.

BelaLugosiNoir · 05/11/2009 20:53

there is a fairly proscriptive dress code at our hosp.

NorbertDentressangle · 05/11/2009 20:57

I noticed this when I had a hospital appt. a few weeks ago.

I sat in the foyer where theres the coffee place, shop etc and all I could see was these cloned women in black trousers and ID passes.

I thought it was a lack of imagination rather than a "uniform" requirement.

BeehiveBaby · 05/11/2009 20:58

I think my dress code lacks imagination!

MarthaFarquhar · 05/11/2009 20:59

LOL.

Shit pay at the NHS remember, so cheap tesco workware does predominate.

French Connection flared jeans here today. And I had patient contact. The trust to which I'm seconded does seem fairly relaxed in this respect. One of my colleagues only ever wears one of three Ramones T-shirts.

BeehiveBaby · 05/11/2009 21:02

I was wondering who The Three Ramones were then....

LaDiDaDi · 05/11/2009 21:05

Some trusts are probably better than others.

I've worked at a few that have even specified black or navy blue plain socks for nursing staff, as well as "hair must be of a natural colour" which caused a lot of annoyance.

BelaLugosiNoir · 05/11/2009 21:59

our hosp:
no jeans
Flat shoes
Discreet jewellery
no spaghetti straps
no shoulders on display
conceal cleavage of both bosom and bottom
I'm trying to remember which colours are banned..ok it was a long day.

herjazz · 05/11/2009 23:05

there's a clerk uniform where I work. Think there's a few different clerk uniforms actually

I can wear what I like smartish for my job. Tho one time I did wear some retro patterned dress and from a distance it did look v much like revolting blouse medical records have to wear. Hasn't been worn since. Don't wear black polyester trousers either

thelunar66 · 05/11/2009 23:13

NHS admin staff here.... our office is like a full on fashion parade

InterruptingKid · 06/11/2009 16:14

WHy on earth would admin people need a UNIFROM fgs?

Maize · 06/11/2009 16:16

Our admin staff have a uniform if they work in patient areas, so ward clerks, receptionists that sort of thing.

Infection control and makes them easily identifiable.

I think my trust specifies dark socks but I rebel and wear bright ones ;)
