Contender for the holy grail of mummy coats?

newtoitallmummy · 03/11/2009 15:11

Am new to all this mummy business and this is my first winter pushing a buggy. Came on here to search about where to find a warm coat which covers my bum and has a hood and will keep out the rain . . . and discovered lots of threads from mummies already looking!

Best one I have seen so far is here

www.bestinthecountry.co.uk/Aigle_Sugey_Trench_Coat_8534.aspx

but it is a bit spendy - would be grateful for your seasoned opinions before I take it to the purchasing committee aka DH!

TIA

belt no good for me though

smokytom · 03/11/2009 15:54

I've had my eye on that one- the site I'd seen it on was charging £165 for it though so thanks for the link

newtoitallmummy · 03/11/2009 16:09

Have googled and found it on another website for £125 which is much better although don't know anything about the company? anyone got any experience?

www.sam-turner.co.uk/store/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=4033

I have tried it on in Blacks and you can take the belt off although of course are still left with the loops but it looked okay without.

Please can we call it anything other than a "mummy coat"

squeaver · 03/11/2009 16:12

That is a nice coat, though

newtoitallmummy · 03/11/2009 16:18

Of course!

What did you have in mind?

An I-used-to-be-stylish-but-now-I-literally-have-my-hands-full coat?

An I-may-have-a-buggy-but-still-refuse-to-wear-green-gore-tex-coat??

ooooooooooh, I like that. I would have to lose 2 stone wear it without the belt though.

Amandoh · 03/11/2009 16:46

I have my eye on that one too!

Love furry collar and love hood to keep furry collar dry. Have been shoving the ads for this coat under DPs nose as I really really NEED it for walking the dogs. Very hard to control 3 dogs, an umbrella and be a conscientious dog owner and clean up after them whilst staying dry.

squeaver · 03/11/2009 16:59

erm...coat with a hood ???

squeaver · 03/11/2009 16:59

Or, non-ugly coat with a hood.

stringbean · 03/11/2009 18:06

I bought one of these last week and can def recommend it. Lovely and warm (although I live in the namby-pamby south), good bum coverage, both fur collar and hood are detachable. Sad thing is that I still do the school run, but without a pushchair, so have found 'the coat' too late, but still beats Goretex sad-Mum-anorak.

mimsum · 04/11/2009 18:42

how do the sizes run? am thinking of the 12, but not if it's a 'tight' 12 iyswim

stringbean · 04/11/2009 20:02

I usually take a 12 and have bought the size 12 (I think it comes as EU 40). It fits me fine around the waist/chest, however if I was wearing a thick fleece under it I would find it a bit tight around the tops of my arms.

NowtonTelly · 04/11/2009 20:03

Nice.

AnyFuckerForSomeParkin · 04/11/2009 20:05

me likey

AnybodyHomeMcFly · 04/11/2009 20:09

I like it, good idea.

Sadiesmum · 05/11/2009 06:53

I got this a couple of weeks ago and can't recommend it enough. It's really cosy without being bulky. Belts don't normally suit me but this one looks fine for some reason. Maybe because it's not too high up as they often are.
I got it on that Sam Turner website and it was a nice speedy delivery.

WshosheBANG · 05/11/2009 07:07

I have this one this year.

It is quite heavy, but fits beautifully, and is really warm.

stuffitllllama · 05/11/2009 07:11

Am sorry, it makes me reel. Pleased for you that others disagree with me.
