Office Work Cocktail party - help me find a suitable outfit please!!

Help! I have been asked to 'represent' my office at a work cocktail party. I work in a predominently male industry and will be younger than most of the people there (i expect the majority of people thewill be male and 35-60yo) and i haven't a clue what to wear!

The 'party' will be held in my office (starting at 6ish when most people have left) so not going to be a cocktail party in the usual sense of a posh venue and evening wear / black tie. I want to look smart but not like i'm dressed to go to work and i want to look feminine and can't look like i'm out on the town.

just to make things a bit harder i am on a very tight budget!! Any suggestions please??

I was going to say Karen Millen, but if you are on a tight budget, that won't work!
What about something like this?

Or this is lovely (worn with opaques)

Asos have quite a few actually...and I have a code for 10% off

What kind of shape suits you? Are you petite, large of norks? What colours do you like?

i did buy something like this a few months ago in black but have never worn it - bit low in my opinion but i have no boobs - so can't decide if this looks worse (revealing low cut top that reveals nothing) or better - blokes don't look at my cleavage as there is nothing to look at? Would it be suitable do you think? I think its better with a belt, and not ideal for sitting down in but doubt i'd be sat down anyway. If i went with this what shoes?

i am tall, slim and no boobs. No preference for colour...

That dress is quite low cut, but maybe with a big necklace to fill in the gap?

Oasis have this which is lovely, imo, but maybe not formal enough?
YOu could do a shift shape, but you'd have to try it on - might be a bit shapeless.
Bargain sequins, also comes in purple.
Plain and a bit boring but versatile - dress it up with jewellery.

Ronaldinhio · 01/11/2009 17:44

what about this

EverythingsPink · 02/11/2009 13:22

ooh really like the last one - not too short though is it?

I also like the sequin one but wide, scoop necklines don't really suit me - tend to highlight that I'm a bit on the scrawny side Think that kind of neckline looks better on girls with a chest do you think?
