Men's shoe cleaning box - S&B?

monkeysmama · 26/10/2009 16:01

I am not sure where to post this question but seeing as I am after something stylish I figure this maybe the topic.

I am fed up of dp cleaning his shoes in the sink . I have decided that one of his exciting Christmas gifts is going to be a shoe cleaning box (do they have a proper name?) This is the best I have found so far but I think it is a bit ugly. Does anyone have one of these kind of things or know where I might find a nicer, more stylish/luxury one.

TIA

MM

here?

brimfull · 26/10/2009 16:08

I can't believe the price of the first link - £65 !!!

Just buy the gubbins needed and put in a smart travel bag or summat

monkeysmama · 26/10/2009 16:10

I quite like that Cybil but there is nowhere to put the shoe while it is being cleaned iyswim. I remember something my granddad had which had a proper shoe stand. I might have a browse at the rest of their website.

my god you're right they are expensive!

monkeysmama · 26/10/2009 16:19

Cheers ggirl - that is more like it. Though I don't like that wood.

Ikea have wicker baskets that would fit a shoe in whilst being cleaned, stick the rest of the shoe cleaning gubbins in a toilet bag and put it in the box when you wrap it.

brimfull · 26/10/2009 16:23

or somehting like this-use the lid to put shoe on

monkeysmama · 26/10/2009 16:34

That one is much better ggirl. I would prefer it without the writing on it but hey - it'll be in a cupboard under the sink anyway. It's a lot cheaper too - almost £70 for a shoe cleaning thing seemed very steep though I am prepared to pay not to have him use the sink!

What about this?

here

tulpe · 26/10/2009 17:29

We have this one from John Lewis. Obviously, tis just an empty box but you could fill it yourself with lovely wooden shoe brushes & polishes etc.

If I could find a black one like the Dibor one I'd be happy. All this fuss for a shoe shine box - how exciting my life has become .

I actually think it's a really good idea for a Christmas present and may just be copying you!

monkeysmama · 27/10/2009 15:28

Excellent Buntytea! What one are you going for?

OP posts:

Probably the Dibor one but I will hold out and see if I can find more of an antiquey one. I have some Victorian wooden shoe stretchers so preferably something to go with them!

Good luck finding one

Jacaqueen · 27/10/2009 18:38

Buntytea thanks for that link. Thats part of DH christmas sorted.

monkeysmama · 27/10/2009 20:01

Ooh-have I started something with this. Every MN dp will be getting a shoe shine kit. Ha ha.

Not sure if anyone is still checking this, but I have just found some lovely boxes here that you can order with or without contents (scroll down the page), and wanted to share in case anyone was still looking for one!

HinnyPet · 29/11/2009 17:48

Did you find one monkeysmama? I'm still looking...
