what is the best anti-aging moisturizer for mid-30's?

Can anyone recommend me a really good one with spf? My skin is pretty good condition - combination oily on the nose but dryish everywhere else. Seeing the signs of aging and motherhood - pores and little brown spots are beginning to appear - feel a bit deflated everytime I look in the mirror now!

they do a hydrating version of the frankincense one instead of the nourishing one - think that's the one I am going to go for as it's not as rich.

ooooh - haven't seen that.

Twintummy · 25/10/2009 15:04

I'm using Simple at the moment as I'm skint but I love No 7 Protect and Pefect range. It really made a difference. It's 3 for 2 at Boots at the moment.

pointsmakeprizes · 25/10/2009 15:09

they have a good selection of the neals yard stuff on boots online - get advantage points as well!

Twintummy - i was going to go for the no 7 but i didn't realise how expensive it was and went for the simple too!! though neals yard is about same price as no 7 but i really like the sound of the ingredients and doesn't have any of the parabens and other stuff which simple does even though it claims to be natural.

I've become a great fan of Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser (have been using dry/sensitive and is gorgeous). I've really noticed a difference - look fresher and better hydrated.
They do one called Superskin which is also supposed to be great. (Am 40, btw).
Don't think it has an spf in it though....
Can get direct from them here

WTR Decleor- my reflexology woman (who also does aromatherapy facials and always uses Tisserand products) says Decleor is a real rip-off as it is basic skin cream (she likened it to Ponds cold cream) to which they add the pure essential oils....which are what makes the cream "active" and so lovely and nice smelling- in essence she said you might as well buy a £3 jar and add a few drops of the relevant essential oil....

Hmmm, wonder if the Neal's Yard would be the same then? As that seems to be "cream" plus an array of oils.....

RubyBooBerry · 25/10/2009 18:12

Well thanks to this thread I got some Neals Yard off ebay!
I'll post this week (and tell you if I'm getting stopped in the street by people mistaking me for my daughter {grin] )

pointsmakeprizes · 25/10/2009 18:50

Pure essential oils can be very expensive - especially the neroli oil - i remember buying a teeny weeny bottle of rose oil 2ml from a health shop and it was about £14!! I didn't realise it was that much and was too embarrassed to put it back. the neroli one goes for £20 for 2ml on the tisserand website. I've used a lot of the tisserand oils when I was pregnant for baths - they were really lovely and cheaper then the neal's yard oils so maybe worth checking those ones out - but we have people who vouch for the neal yard one creams.

On another note I went to debenhams this afternoon and they are doing a lot of origins gift packs and I couldn't resist buying a pack for £45 but it had about £80+ worth of stuff in it. I got a perfect world 30ml cream, 30ml serum, a full size face wash and a body wash and body cream so I think I did ok. The serum alone sells for £28 and face wash is £15.00 so I pretty much got the rest for free (so I keep telling myself...)

The Origins sets work out at great value - oh and Origins products last ages too.

Stylelostinlabour · 25/10/2009 18:59

I've just picked up an M&S one for 30 plus skin and it's as good if not better than my elemis and lacome products I use when have the pennies.

the marks bienfait copy si good too

and the bifacil copy

Furball · 25/10/2009 19:13

I used to use dermalogica but have since moved onto M & S royal jelly face cream - tis lovely (and cheap!)

pointsmakeprizes · 25/10/2009 19:27

oooh white tea is the active ingredient in the origins one!!! oh no did I just spend too much money??? Actually this reminds me that someone told me a long time ago that the M&S stuff is made by the same people as the clarins stuff. That L'oreal and Lancome are the same and that Chanel and bourjois are also the same.

Ok, am going to try the neals yard one on the basis of what has been said here. Not yet sure whether to go hydrating or nourishing though.

DorotheaPlentighoul · 25/10/2009 20:13

Another testimony here that the Neals Yard Frankincense stuff is amazing. I've had both versions (depending on season) and love both. Nothing else has measured up since.

I was a bit disappointed with the body cream though (got as Xmas present last year from observant and lovely DP). It worked beautifully but I just thought the smell was a bit too much, unlike the facial versions.

purplepeony · 25/10/2009 20:55

I'd reccomend Clinique Super Defense- comes in 3 -4 types for different skins, all with an SPF of 25.
If you have brown spots to MUST use a sun block 365 days year- I recommend Clinique Sheer City Block- use on its own or under make up.

There is no moisturiser that will keep you young- Simple and Olay got good reports recently but you HAVE to keep the UV rays off your skin.

At night I use REN Frankinsence repair cream- fantastic- better than Neals Yard one.

NickNemo · 25/10/2009 21:21

I know that L'Oreal and Lancome are owned by the same company, who also own Garnier, Maybelline, Kérastase, Redken, Matrix, Shu Uemura, Biotherm, Helena Rubinstein, Kiehl's Shu Uemura, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Cacharel, Viktor & Rolf, Diesel, YSL Beauté, Vichy, Skinceuticals and The Body Shop!

Estee Lauder owns all these other companies, Clinique, MAC, Prescriptives, Origins, Creme de la Mer, Bobbi Brown, Aveda, Jo Malone, Bumble and Bumble and Darphin. And a whole lot more.

I am 30, and I use By Terry's Gelee de Rose as my main moisturiser, its gorgeous! Don't know who that belongs to though

pointsmakeprizes · 25/10/2009 21:22

Think I might just buy my own frankincense and put it into the creams I have as that seems to be the star ingredient. Can get it here

The origins does not have spf so I will get the dermalogica spf 30 booster to mix in with it too. Maybe I should just sell my own cream once I've mixed them all up!

I have been using thisfor a couple of years now, im 34 next month and find its really good, ive got dry/oily/plain weird skin.

cheeseandeyeballsarnie · 26/10/2009 01:44

i use skinnynanny from lush at night-tis very thick but fab.and body shops vit b in day.

pointsmakeprizes · 26/10/2009 12:58

Well I tried the Origins out last night and this morning and I have to say I love it! The serum especially is gorgeous - not sure if the moisturiser is adding anything to the serum but they are both lovely and I thought my skin definitely looked better after putting them on. Will wait and see if there is any improvement in the dark spots I have been getting recently.

OP posts:
JANEITEPatrickNormanMcHennesy · 26/10/2009 13:04

Glad you like them.

I went to bed covered in Frankinsense and must say that my skin feels and looks really nice this morning - although I think the new max factor foundation is helping too! Will persist with the Frankinsense as a night cream methinks, with Regenerist in the day.

pointsmakeprizes · 26/10/2009 13:23

Seems the origins and neals yards are getting big thumbs up! I was reading that drinking the white tea is supposed to be very good for you in terms of anti-aging so going to switch to that as I would normally drink a lot of green tea anyway.

cornsilk · 26/10/2009 13:33

So many good reviews for Neal's Yard perhaps MN should ask them for a discount....?

Bucharest · 26/10/2009 13:36

Would be fab....I sometimes get a 10% or 20% discount email, but I'm invariably skint when it comes through......

Now if only Tisserand did facial skin care- their stuff is fabulous.......

I'm liking the sounds of the Origins stuff.....thinking about my Mum for Christmas (she's another skincareholic like me!)
