Umming and ahhing about whether to have a fringe .........

My hair is thick, long and layered, and used to be quite lovely - that was until DS scissorhands got to it. He has pulled it at the temples so much over the past few months that I now have tufty devil horns that will not flatten down no matter what I try. I'm afraid a fringe is probably the only way to cover this up without me wearing all of my hair in my face.

The problem is, I'm still carrying baby weight (size 16), and am worried that I might look mega frumpy with a fringe - IME you always see these hip young skinny things with fringes. My face has been unaffected by the lardage and my hair grows pretty quicky so I'm tempted to just go for it, but need convincing. What do you think?

God, I know. They haven't got a clue.

I read recently that curly hair should be cut dry, and each curl should be individually cut, but what's the chance of finding somebody who is willing to do that?

MaggieBehaveOutGuising · 14/10/2009 22:44

ha ha! I wouldn't have the NERVE to ask! and I'm quite assertive. Can you imagine the tip they'd expect if they cut each curl individually!

They always make me feel guilty for having thick curly hair too. "it takes longer to wash" then "It takes longer to comb out/cut/dry..."

inveteratenamechanger · 15/10/2009 09:25

Oh yes, the number of times I have been sent out in the street with wet hair because they can't be bothered to dry it! In fact, this could be an argument in favour of cutting it dry...

I'm off to the hairdresser's now. I want a fringe! I feel too young to just accept having the same haircut forever........

I'd rather risk the occasional disaster. I have a picture of the direction I want the layers to be cut in, so the hairdresser can have a little sneer at that before doing what they were gong to do anyway.!!

I don't have a fringe.... I did ask, but he gave me some science talk about why it was really quite impossible.

BUT he did graciously deign to cut the front bits over my forehead a bit shorter than usual. It's kind of like an asymetrical fringe that needs a trim when it's wet, and then it can either spring back up into curly or I can blow dry it straight (once in a blue moon!).

I'm happy enough. It's striaght now, it looks lovely. I'd love to embalm it now.

What's the OP done then!? did she manage to coerce the hairdresser into giving her a fringe?

MaggieBehaveOutGuising · 15/10/2009 20:28

Sorry ruby, I meant you!!

Sounds lovely, Maggie. How about getting some cheapo straighteners - it only takes me a few secs to do my fringe in the morning.

Bambinoloveseggbirds · 15/10/2009 22:06

I booked my appointment for 6th Nov. I can't get it done before then - I hope this thread keeps going so I don't chicken out.

i just had a fringe and i love it - honestly, it's been a revelation. if you dont like it you can always just pin it back with hairclips until it grows. it's a bloody cheap alternative to botox and if i let it get long enough i dont have to pluck my eberows either

MaggieBehaveOutGuising · 16/10/2009 10:49

Well I'm going to keep bumping it...

PuppyMonkey · 16/10/2009 10:54

I have never NOT had a fringe, iuswim. I look stupid without one. Get a soft one if you don't want that blunt look.

Fringes hide all your frown lines and make you look younger imho.

MaggieBehaveOutGuising · 16/10/2009 10:55

you're making me jealous. Tell my hairdresser!
