Where to go for a posh 'occasion' dress/outfit?

We now have 3 weddings to go to next year (none for ages, then just like buses they come along) I am not a dress-up person and I really don't know where to get a posh outfit. Can only think of the on-every-highstreet places like Monsoon, which is fine, but where else can I try for posh stuff? Any good shops I need to know about?

Ta!

could you use a dress agency and hire something?

slowreadingprogress · 10/10/2009 23:06

oh! Hadn't thought of that! I thought it was only prom dress style stuff they did...would they do stuff suitable for weddings? I do want to really make the effort and dress up (don't get out much ) but I don't want to look like I'm trying to be a bridesmaid.....

Hire - that is the way to go - look in your local yellow pages and search online google hire outfits/dresses /my county

Hire hats aswell if you like hats or need

Oasis, Coast and French Connection spring to mind.

i love this dress for a prom or ball not really into green but love this

Do you do long dresses for a wedding though? Not sure I would. Knee length i think.

slowreadingprogress · 10/10/2009 23:45

Yes Peaches that's what I mean about not wanting to look like a bridesmaid - I would rather go for knee length - though that dress is lovely Ivy...I do like green!!!

I agree PeachesMcLean. Knee length for a wedding.

I love this Oasis dress but can't wear the high neck line with my stupid big boobs. Length and colour would be good for a wedding though.

Some of those French Connection dresses are gorgeous.

I've hankered after this one for ages now but it's very short.

John Lewis is always worth a try if you live near a big branch - they've re-vamped them lately I think, and they sell the likes of Coast, Hobbs etc under one roof.
In fact, you can sometimes find decent stuff in their own brand.

Amandoh · 10/10/2009 23:59

Oh, the Bex dress PeachesMcLean!

I really wanted it last Christmas in navy blue but alas, a size 12 could not be had for love nor money.

slowreadingprogress · 11/10/2009 00:04

thanks everyone - am looking on line as we speak

Will check out John Lewis

Then I really must go to bed! I could look at clothes for hours....

I just loved the green dress - wanted to show, dont really think it would do for a wedding unless you were weird or bridesmaid
