Anyone recommend good websites for unusual wedding dresses?

lol, it's cutlets, two layers of shapewear, and the pleated skirt forgives all pear-shaped ills!

The dress was difficult because it was a compromise. My parents are very religious so I didn't want bare shoulders and 99% of wedding dresses seem to be strapless or otherwise trying to bring the sexy back.

Searching to see if I have any other photos...

LMG, me too! My runner-up dress had the same basic style as the one I ended up with, but the overlay was blue lace with a rollneck and billowy sleeves (the sleeves kicked it for me).

I ended up wearing blue, satin pumps.

I got married in a dress from here
I wore the angel dress in gold (it's a lighter gold than looks in the pic)
but they have a lot more choice now, and a couple of ones I like more.

Funnily enough at the City Clerk's Office in NY where I got married, which is a little bit like getting married at Argos (you take a ticket and get called to a station when it's your turn) I was the only person not in a traditional wedding dress!

oh, and this was my dress, for a Xmas wedding. It was the one made to illustrate the style, and so was about half price (about £300 plus import tax IIRC)

Got married in Vegas by Judge Judy's granny. Outside the license office there are actually street pushers with pamphlets trying to sell wedding packages! "want to get married? we got a real nice chapel! limo's around the corner! I'll include the flowers for free!" pmsl the whole way across the street to the judge's office.

I got married in a red dress (pics on profile). I very nearly went for a dark green bridesmaid dress like this. I'm selling mine if you did fancy red

Thank you girls for all the ideas - I am getting so obssessed with the wedding we aren't even having yet!!!

Tilly - that dress is gorgeous! But I'm about 3 times the size of you (though hopingnot to be when I get married!)

I've been looking into getting married in turkey or something. This would solve the issue of not inviting certain people and we could just have a do at the social club when we got back.

Though I did fall in love with this colour scheme www.primadonnabride.co.za/2009/08/black-white-and-yellow-wedding-colours.html

I'm not getting married and have no plans to do so any time soon, I just came on the thread to have a nosey, but I had to post to say Lexilicious I think your dress is going to absolutely stunning is just the sort of dress I would want were I getting married.

Well done you

Those Candy Anthony dresses are gorgeous - a local seamstress should be able to make one though!

Another vote for finding a local dressmaker. I did this and got a green silk dress made to my own design. And it only cost £800.

I didn't but I would vote for a dressmaker if you can do it.

I had just moved and knew no one and was trying to find a dress with 4 weeks to go. Not enough time for a dressmaker

Why thank you knickers! I may post a pic when it's made.

Have blocked out what the Candy Anthony dresses were costed at, but I think the basic strapless dress was about 600-800, then 150 fr the petticoat, 200-300 for the bolero, and something silly like 100-150 for the sash. I mean honestly it's a straight strip of fabric hemmed together!

My mum got into a seamstressy conversation with them though and found out where they get their fabric. Which I of course have forgotten but it's just off Oxford Street.

I didn't have a traditional wedding dress but bought - on a whim and on first trying on - a dress I absolutely loved and I looked great it. I've worn it to many weddings since. It's absolutely my "wedding" dress. It is very different and very special but I won't say what make or that'll out me to anyone who hasn't already spotted me.

MacCulloch and Wallis.

and also for vintage stuff there are a few good indy shops in a cute three-floored courtyard place off Carnaby St - it's called Kingly Court. There's a shop in there that reconditions vintage dresses (1920s loveliness) and they recommended Broadwick Silks which is nearby.

my supplies were from Dalston Mill Fabrics.

Getting quite excited now!
