FLY boot owners - I have some questions for you

I know, I know, I well behind the times with this one...

I tried on some Fly boots yesterday and they were very very comfy. And rather lovely. I am still a bit at the price and more than a bit that I missed out on the Office Ridiculous Price sale that I witnessed via MN threads

If you actually have a pair of either Mes or Mol boots, could you answer a few questions for me, please? I only tried on the Mes but like the look of the Mol too but I need to justify the cost to myself...

Do you think they will be waterproof? It sounds a stupid question but I bought some lovely Josef Siebel shoes once that leaked massively through the stitching round the toes and it was horrible having soggy toes so I'm paranoid.

Do they mark easily? The first pair I tried on were pristine and gorgeous but then the second pair (in different shop, size 7 which was out of stock in first shop) were all scuffed and looked quite marked. I am a scruffbag and will clearly bash them up quite quickly.

The dark brown are absolutely gorgeous but does anyone have the tan? they look lovely and I have been on the look out for some shoes or boots in tan for ages so I'm really tempted but the issue of marking easily puts me off. Also not sure if I'd wear the tan Mol with skirts/dresses anyway for some reason?

Any thoughts on a preference between the Mes or the Mol? Given that I can't really justify more than one pair

Finally, anyone ever tried their shoes? I just found these and think they would be nice for work (wearing with black trousers, not sure what colour I would choose though.

I have to be very careful when uncrossing my legs as have nearly ripped my tights when teh buckle has caught in them. Rippage will happen one day, I'm sure.

NorkilyChallenged · 09/10/2009 09:21

Oh Fizzpops - is there no nice boot that is also waterproof?? Hope you're right and it's just caution on their part.

Let me know if you're out the rain wearing them, though! I am definitely aiming to try them on next time I'm in town. I read that they are often quite tight and I have quite wide feet so I'm hoping they fit me!

BSB - at Scottish rain being wetter. I'm sure my Scottish DP would agree, though we're in the soft south now!

Hm, am really disappointed about general leakiness of lovely boots.

The good thing about the mol is that the strap is slightly adjustable, there is plenty of room in my size 5 boots for thick socks, so they should be fine on you norkily? I walked through grass in mine, so they got pretty wet, I think just on pavements and avoiding puddles they are probably okay.

I want to wear mine all the time.

fizzpops · 09/10/2009 12:25

I am giving mine their first outing today - as yet not raining though.

They are quite snug to get on, I thought they wouldn't go on at first. But once the foot is past the ankle part of the boot the tightest part is across the instep. Zipping them up is no problem (for me at least) as they have an elasticated bit at the top. Width was fine for me too, I don't have the narrowest feet, but also not the widest so can't be much help with that.

I have tan Mes, had them for a year. Yes, they do leak around the stitching but ime waterproofing stuff does help although in a complete downpour I still don't wear them.

And as said said be careful with tights and crossing legs. I have ruined a pair like that.

I am most upset to hear I missed out on bargain Mols.

muddleduck · 09/10/2009 13:21

I've cycled in my Mols in 2 torrential downpours - feet got very slightly wet but really not too bad.

Have anyone else's gone a bit baggy round the ankles? I'm guessing this is a combination of cycling and having fat calves.

NorkilyChallenged · 09/10/2009 13:58

BadPoet - tan Mes? Are they lovely?

How about marks on them, have they stayed quite nice overall?

I know I do sound like an idiot who jumps into massive puddles but I do seem to manage to plonk my feet into water more often than you would think.... I can't live in wellies though

Saw someone in patent Mes today but can't say I liked the patent much.

Oh I am glad there is a thread.

I was thinking of asking other people how they were getting on.

I wore my Mols the other day in damp conditions (not jumping in puddles obv) and the insoles came loose, so when I went to put them on again, they ruckled up at the end

It is a horrid feeling. Plus the leather is taking yonks to dry out. They are starting to feel quite, well, weak.

I cans ee them breaking by next autumn tbh or the zip going or something.

Jewelsandgems · 09/10/2009 14:22

I have worn my Mes in the rain and no leakage at all. And mine are second hand off ebay (although, maybe the first owner did use a protector?)

My red ones do get black marks on them, but the marks kind of just rub off with my hand, and leave a paler red line (which very quickly becomes the same red as all the boot)

Mine feel very robust!

And I am thinking of asking for the Mol for christmas, in the dark brown or tan.

I have the Yule and Midas Fly boots and luuurve them both - no leakage at all.

Re: the shoes - haven't tried the ones you mentioned OP but I have the Yaz shoes and they are extremely comfortable - can easily go to work and / or stand/walk in them all day.

brokenspacebar · 09/10/2009 16:37

I like the look of the bootie. I have Lol shoes, which have been great,

BadPoet · 09/10/2009 20:56

NorkilyChallenged (me too btw )the tan boots are lovely, I really like the colour (which I think has darkened slightly with waterproofing)- it's not a very rich tan though.

Marks, well they do look a bit weathered after a year (but I only have 2 pairs boots and wear them for about 6m of the year) - scratches etc are visible if you look, and the toes are slightly faded/scuffed - but I quite them like that. I love the curved shape at the top. I wear them with dresses & tights/leggings, under jeans, not so much with skirts - don't know why really.

I do also have some Fly shoes, red Yuna - love them, very comfy indeed and look pristine still (slightly smoother leather than the boots I think?)
