I want my hair cut like Danni Minogue. Will the hairdresser think I am a knob if I say that?

Also, is her hair a Good Thing or should I just not bother?

I 32 (very nearly almost 33) with long brown hair a couple of inches below my shoulders. A round to oval face shape. Size 10-12. 5 ft ish.

AND, is it the type of hairstyle that will only look good if you have your own personal stylist on a daily basis?

I am older and fatter than you though, NOT a size 10 by any means
I love it on other people but my face is very round, think football really.

I just don't suit a full fringe, I love that style on others though.

Squeezy sometimes I can get it perfect with them, but usually I just get a few good curls and the rest are strange, stringy and lank Plus I don't have the time to spend doing it - my hair is below shoulder length and takes just 15 mins for the whole head with conical wand (and my hair is in much better condition) and with the GHDs just takes forever! A friend if mine uses hers for curls though, and they are perfect but then she is child free and has ages to spend!

I'd say go for it, and agree, take a picture or two.

I can say this as without shame I asked my hairdresser in summer to cut mine like Victoria Beckham - the pixie crop.

I am not a svelte young thing, but very short hair suits me, so thought, "that's how I want it, there are loads of photos of it, so why not?"

Trendy young hairdresser didn't bat an eyelid, simply recommended trying slightly longer layers, she did and it looks fab.

Of course, she may have been laughing hysterically with her colleagues the minute I walked out of the salon, but hey

YohoAhoy · 06/10/2009 21:17

Oh, and can I reiterate again the importance of a photo?

many years ago I wanted a Purdey cut, which was hugely 'in' at the time (showing my age).

The haridresser couldn't really recall it, and I didn't have a picture, so I tried to describe it. I was 14.

Eventually I said it looked sort of like a mushroom.

So she gave me the cut.

And it looked exactly like a mushroom. Not a hint of Joanna Lumley. Simply, a mushroom.

This was not a good experience.

itsmeolord · 06/10/2009 21:17

That is what worries me. If i do it will I then have to find another hairdresser to maintain it for me because the first one will be unable to wield her scissors whilst laughing hysterically.
Or would they book me in as Dannii?? And call me Ms Minogue.

might look like a helmet on some

not necessarily a bad thing

YohoAhoy · 06/10/2009 21:42

Yes, mushroom.

But you can access tons of Dannii photos - she's all over the celeb mags, or you can print out one of the oddles online, so the danger of ending up looking like a fungus is much reduced.

MrsMills · 08/10/2009 12:05

Welll I don't think it bothered Danni Minogue when she went to her hairdressers and asked for a hairstyle like MrsMills, so go for it

Haunty27 · 08/10/2009 12:35
