Rainwear dilemma. Can you lovely ladies offer your thoughts?

This is my first time on the style & beauty topic..normally I'm hanging out on the threads about sleepless babies... but I need some help and hoped this might be a good place to get some!

Right, so I've just done the school run in the pouring rain, with a baby in one arm, lunchboxes and bookbags in the other arm, and an umbrella in my third arm ... .no, wait, I don't have a third arm, that would be the problem then...

After my inelegant effort to get my kids to school with an umbrella I looked at what all the other mums were wearing and they all seem to have some kind of coat with a hood which clearly makes a lot of sense.

But what is the style consensus here? Mostly people seem to be wearing proper rain jackets like the thing you'd get from North Face or some kind of ski shop, which in my pre-baby life I'd have thought of as not hugely stylish. But are normal rules suspended for rainwear? Or is there such a thing as a stylish raincoat? What do you stylish ladies wear in the rain?

Alternative Ultimate Solution

Ooh I like those Olney hats... hard to know if they'd suit me without trying one on though, mmm the dilemma.

Baby awake now, but I'll be back later to check out all these links and ideas.

[[http://www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Accessories/Hats-and-Scarves/AV025/Womens-Cloud-Spotter-Hat.ht ml Boden rain hat]
Land's End sometimes have them too but atm they are a;ll 'thermal;' and only showerproof.

Mine is the same shape but matte black with a fleece lining (mmm toasty)

If you ever happen to find yourself at Disneyland Paris there is an Aigle factory outlet at MArne-le-Vallee which is great for stylish hooded waterproof coats and/or hats.

Oh yes a hat!!!

You ladies are genius.

I had to abandon my hood this morning due to the fact it was completely over my eyes. I ended up with dripping hair but then I do every single time it rains and never thought of a hat as a solution.

What do we think of this? I found it when looking at the squall coat link.

I like the yellow but it wouldn't suit me so I might go for a polka dot. (Like the Olney ones too but a little disconcerted there is no price).

I am very tempted by that Tilley winter hat in Charcoal here Those boden ones are horrible imho. That's the problem with Boden - most of the clothes for adults look like kids' clothes but bigger.

well I went out this morning in hat, trench coat and these brown spotty boots

BonjourIvresse · 05/10/2009 20:14

i have a beige rain trench coat and redrain hat. i can't do an umbrella because I'm pushing the buggy. I want to get a boden cloudspotter or urban mac in the sale...

brokenspacebar · 05/10/2009 23:40

I have just ordered this in brown - it is waterproof - whether it makes me look like a womble is yet to be seen.

I also quite like the Aigle one, but not the hood, Didriksons coats look perfect for the school run, I will link to them tmrw if I get a chance.

"which in my pre-baby life I'd have thought of as not hugely stylish" Why drop your standards now?

aarghhelp · 06/10/2009 10:56

ha ha, Verity Brulee, I saw and coveted that hat!

aarghhelp · 06/10/2009 11:01

Oh and I actually ordered the Boden zebra hat, but it did nothing for me - the colours were too drab around my face.

Have however found quite a stylish Pia Rossini showerproof hat in a local sale for £4.99, v pleased with that!

Aww,I LOVE a rain jacket thread so I was straight in to this one.
But it's an old thread, bumped by spam. Sad

And reported.

Lilymaid for raincoats with zip in/out linings, look at Cocoon. Be warned, they are £££, but I have had mine 15 years and it a classic and still looks new; my mum has had hers almost as long and my sister just swipes either when she visits (but living in the desert, has never bought her own!)

I wear a black Nike StormFit raincoat. It has a padded inner coat which can be removed when it isn't freezing. It's got a peaked hood and sealed seams. It's brilliant. It comes to my knees, so bum is dry. I work in a school so I needed it for playground duty. Can I find a pic to show you? Can I hell. The closest I can find is the Helly Hansen Aden coat, but this Nike effort is just more stylish.
