What one outfit could I buy for nine year old dd?

Don't have a lot of money to spare so only one outfit - I am thinking something like a skirt and boots. Not too smart but presentable eg for her to see her grandma in. She has jeans and some cord trousers though her winter tops are not much to write home about.

Please, ideas for what she could wear and wear I can buy it as our shopping trip today was disastrous.

Also, I went shopping today looking for leggings as she hates tights but could only find black or lurid pink ones, neither colour being dd's thing. Are other colours available and where from? And do they really work as a replacement for tights?

i got my 9yoDD grey legging from asda which were very cheap. they go with most of her dresses from last year which are getting a bit short

does she like dresses/skirts? if not there is no point in buying them i she wont wear them

is grandma very old fashioned? surely decent pair of trousres/jeans and nice top are quite presentable?

does she have a decent winter coat / jacket?

skirt and boots would be lovely but decent boots will be at least £30

where did you look today? I get lots of DD clothes in H&M, although some seasons everything seems to be black. Most stuff in Asda & tesco for her age group is very cheap & nasty looking IMHO, esp the mary kate and ashley / HSM stuff

Yes, she likes skirts, but in the winter she rarely wears them because she won't wear tights and always ends up wearing a silly assortment of clothes. I have decided one decent outfit is better than several mismatches.

I din't literally mean she had to have the outfit for Grandma, I was trying to give an idea of what sort of occasion she might wear it.

I hate anything like HSM as does dd so I was looking today in John Lewis and M&S. I like Gap also. I was going to look in Tesco and Asda but now I am not so sure after what you have said!

leggings sound ideal if she doesn't like tights

and she might be able to get the wear out of skirts/dresses from last year that would otherwise be too short

also summery dresses or skirts layered up with long sleeves t shirts, leggings and boots

i usually get DD dark purple or brown boots that she can wear to school but also the rest of the week, as they are so ££££ and only last a few months. black look too much like school uniform IMO

I was hoping dd would wear tights this year so she could wear her summer shorts on top but I dont think she is falling for that!

Matalan leggings they have them in other colours. DD1 who is 9 has a couple of pairs of leggings, a denim skirt, a purple cord skirt and a few tops for various places (Matalan, Pumpkin Patch, Next) and she mixes and matches and wears with her black ugg style boots and seems quite happy with these and ignore the rest of her wardrobe at the moment. HTH

DD came down today with her shorts over her leggings so your DD could try that.

Zara is usually good. Dd1 is 9 and she pretty much lives in short skirts with black leggings under or skinny jeans (Gap) and funky t-shirts (she has one with a panda silhouette on from Tesco and there is a nice pleated cord skirt in Next in nice bright colours). Was in Jones the Bootmaker today and they had nice boots, but they are about £5 - £40.

I have never seen a Matalan. What does anyone think of this? Would it go with the leggings seb linked to?

I think 'Claires' sell leggings at reasonable prices, in lots of colours
