what should a 37yr old man wear?

My husband is 37. In his 20s (and early 30s) he worse skate/snowboard tshirts and combat trousers or jeans, topped off with a hooded top. He thought he looked very fine and dandy . Now he is a bit older and doesn't wish to dress like a teenager any more. But he doesn't want to dress like his father either. So far he has decided to eschew large logos and has purchased a brown cord blazer, which works but he can't only wear that. And he doesn't really want to wear only the boden catalogue. Any thoughts on suitable attire? brands? we don't get out a lot. He is a little chunky (but not a lot) and about 5'10".

oh I'm sure some blokes look good in them. I do like smallish fitting ones on women.

Cardigans, however...

Dp looks okay in a v-neck jumper but he tried a cardigan on a few weeks ago, despite my sniggering - and it looked beyond hideous.

He mostly wears jeans from Gap or Red Herring, with a shirt from eg: Ben Sherman or Monsoon - or a t-shirt from Gap or Millets.

He is a man of extremely simple tastes and nearly every item he possesses is blue!

He wears those trainers that are half-shoe type things on his feet - or 'proper' shoes for work, with black trews and one of the afore-mentioned shirts and v necks.

Weirdly cardigans seemed to be all the rage amongst his 20 something more ahem 'directional' friends.

With their hair cuts and vans.

Can't get away with it as much now.

Although am tempted by some of those on the PS website.....

my husband likes v-necks too if they 'feel right' he worked a lot in italy so maybe he has a different view on v-necks/jackets. i think they do make him look more 'grown up' but that's what he's aiming for. it's all right wearing surf gear while you are actually surfing, just not in a pta meeting.
my husband has a thick knitted cardie - he wears it as a coat, i think that's craghoppers. it is not girly in any shape or form (but he loves it so....)

not cargo pants or brightly coloured fun shirts

or three 1/4 trousers

cardigans have raised their heads before - many mnetters favoured a man in a cardi. Always a turn off for me.

Yes - grown men in hoodies and cropped trousers etc is a real no, no.

Try White Stuff. They often have really nice men's shirts very slightly a la Paul Smith

It is utterly indescribale.

A big chunky vomit coloured cardi with a dark check short underneath and a model with bouffant bleached hair with black roots.

Hmmm. He seems to have gone a little more creative. I was thinking shirts with a mild pattern and nice buttons. The sort of thing men in their forties with kids wear with cords.

With guys in there 30s its all bout keeping it simple and well fitted rather than having 'showy' clothes. My DH looks great in shirts/tshirts with v necks/cardigans, jean and nice footwear.
Gap, Jack Wills, Reiss all do the basics and the clothes fit well and wash well. A nice scarf also looks great too. I actually like the sound of the blazer

my DF is 38 and has a cool style all of his own, he usually wears vintage band t shirts (ac/dc, led zeppelin / guns n roses etc) and worn looking bootcut jeans, either with coverse type trainers or dealer style boots (also vintage) and leather jackets. he also has a cord style suit jacket type thing that looks really cool.

he is GORGEOUS and also actually is genuinely into his music and is also a musician (drummer) so it suits him, but i dont think the style is for everyone!

dunno if this has helped. just wanted to show off about my fit DF really...haha ;) x

DH is 38 and his wardrobe consists of mainly Jack & Jones, River Island and Debenhams - he has some really nice clothes.

He does mainly wear some sort of dark jean/top ensemble though.
